Baggies close in on deal for Johnstone

Baggies close in on deal for Johnstone West Brom are closing in on a £5m deal to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone. According to the Express and Star, West Brom are close to agreeing a fee of £5m to bring Johnstone to the Hawthorns on a permanent deal. Johnstone spent last season on loan to Aston Villa, helping the club reach the play-off final – as they lost 1-0 to Fulham. The English shot-stopper now looks set for a return to the Championship with West Brom. Darren Moore is looking for Johnstone to replace Ben Foster, who is set to leave the club this summer. Foster refused to attend a pre-season training camp last week and is the subject of interest from Premier League side Watford. The 35-year-old had previously voiced his commitment to West Brom, despite relegation, but now appears keen to return to the top-flight. Johnstone will be West Brom’s first signing of the transfer window.

Johnstone joins West Brom

Johnstone joins West Brom West Brom have confirmed the arrival of Sam Johnstone from Manchester United. The club have confirmed that the former Aston Villa loanee joins the club on a four-year deal. Johnstone joins the club for an undisclosed fee which is believed to be somewhere in the region of £6.5 million. The player’s arrival is likely to signal the end of Ben Foster’s time at the club, with a move to Watford looking increasingly likely for the former Manchester United youngster. The 25-year-old impressed on loan at Aston Villa last season and played a key role in their route to the play-off final. Johnstone’s arrival is a sign of things to come at the Hawthorns with the Baggies looking to shake up their squad in a bid to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt. Baggies head coach Darren Moore has praised Johnstone following his arrival at the club. “Sam is young and determined to be the best keeper he can possibly be – he’s hungry to do that with us at Albion. We’ve had him targeted from the outset and we’re all delighted to have him on board. He buys into exactly what we are trying to achieve and will hopefully represent the shape of things to come.
