Newcastle in talks to land relegated midfielder on free transfer

Newcastle in talks to land relegated midfielder on free transfer Ki Sung-yueng is in talks with Newcastle over a free transfer to the club following Swansea City’s relegation. The Chronicle reports that talks have taken place as Rafa Benitez continues to add to his squad over the summer. The midfielder confirmed earlier this season that he would not be extending his contract with the Swans, bringing an end to his six-year stay at the club. At the age of 29, he would bring a wealth of experience in the Premier League and could fill the void left by Mikel Merino, who is returning to Spain after just one season in the Premier League. Real Sociedad are keen to bring in the player back to his home country and have activated the release clause in his contract. It has been well documented that Benitez is working on small budgets throughout the summer transfer window, so the Newcastle boss will be keen to get this deal over the line.

Merino joined Newcastle originally on loan last Summer before making his switch permanent in October 2017.

He made 24 Premier League appearances for the Magpies, scoring once against Crystal Palace.

Sociedad are based only 50 miles from the defender’s home town of Pamplona, meaning that the move to Spain is very much a move home for the defender.

Newcastle deny reports that £18m-rated midfielder is set to join

Newcastle deny reports that £18m-rated midfielder is set to join Despite numerous reports over the last few days, Newcastle have dismissed the possibility of signing Stefano Sturaro, according to the Shields Gazette. The Juventus player was reportedly closing in on an £18 million move to the club, but Rafa Benitez, according to the Gazette, has rebuffed the player, who is not on his list of targets. The news comes shortly after Newcastle United signed Ki-Seng Yeung – a central midfielder who left relegated Swansea after another stellar season of performances in the Premier League. It seems, then, that Rafa Benitez is happy with his midfield of Jonjo Shelvey, Mohamed Diame, Jack Colback and now, the South Korean. Despite Mikel Merino reportedly moving closer to a move to Real Sociedad, Newcastle are passing up the chance to sign the Italian. Deemed surplus to requirements at Juventus, the club are looking to sell the 25-year-old, who made just 19 appearances last season, eight of them off the bench.

However, Sociedad appear to have stolen a march in the race to activate a release clause in his contract which could see him leave for a for-newcastle-midfielder- mikel - merino -37059402.html. Ed Sheeran thanks Robbie Williams for joining him on stage in Amsterdam.

Brighton plan £10m swoop for Newcastle man .
Brighton and Hove Albion are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden this summer. The holding midfielder is understood to have handed in a transfer request at St James’ Park as he looks to secure a move down south on the basis of ‘exceptional family reasons’. This appears to have prompted Brighton to express an interest in a summer deal and, according to the Chronicle, the Seagulls would be willing to spend in the region of £10 million on Hayden. Rafa Benitez is believed to be reluctant to let Hayden go but seems likely to sanction his sale to allow the midfielder the chance to be closer to his family in the southern region of England. Hayden was a regular for Newcastle in the first half of last season but progressively became more of a rotational option for Benitez, who could be set to lose yet another midfield option. Ki Sung-yueng has joined on a free transfer from Swansea this summer but with Mikel Merino departing for Real Sociedad and Hayden seemingly seeking an exit, Benitez could be forced to look for another central midfielder.
