Cahill considering Chelsea exit as Blues close in on Daniele Rugani

Cahill considering Chelsea exit as Blues close in on Daniele Rugani Gary Cahill will reportedly seek talks over his Chelsea future with new boss Maurizio Sarri once he reports back to Cobham. The London Evening Standard reports that Cahill was unhappy with his playing time under Antonio Conte last campaign, and will seek assurances from Sarri that he will play a more fundamental part in the squad. Cahill, 32, moved to Stamford Bridge from Bolton Wanderers in 2012 and has won six major trophies during his spell at the club, including last season’s FA Cup. However, he featured less frequently last campaign, making just 24 Premier League starts, falling behind Antonio Rudiger in the pecking order. Cahill’s standing in the Blues squad could be weakened by the arrival of Italian international Daniele Rugani, who is edging closer to a £44.2 million switch. Chelsea are also being linked with Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles. Sarri is expected to use a back-four, meaning he will have to choose two from Cahill, Rudiger, David Luiz, Cesar Azpilicueta and potentially Rugani. With one year remaining on his contract, now would be the perfect time to offload Cahill, who was part of the England squad who made it to the semi-finals of the World Cup in Russia. The centre-half is sure to have plenty of suitors, having played a key part in Chelsea’s final few games of last season.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has revealed he will hold talks with Gareth Southgate for clarification over his international future.

The London Evening Standard reports that Cahill will speak to the England boss after struggling to make a mark on the World Cup in Russia.

The Chelsea defender has failed to feature for England thus far but is being tipped to play against Belgium in the World Cup third-place match.

“It is a good conversation for me to have with the manager in the coming month or so. Any time I get an opportunity to play for England, I want to do that. I can finish my England career knowing that I have played every possible game I can play in the times I have been selected.”

Leicester City eye deal for Gary Cahill

Leicester City eye deal for Gary Cahill Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has emerged as a summer target for Leicester City, according to a report from the Daily Mail. The centre-back could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge following Maurizio Sarri’s appointment as Chelsea boss, with the Italian keen to sign Daniele Rugani from Juventus. Cahill played a sporadic role for the Blues last season and could look to leave West London this summer to go in search of regular first-team football. Chelsea are already well-stocked with defensive options and it seems Sarri could look to trim the squad, with the experienced Cahill among those being linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge. Leicester, meanwhile, appear to be keen on adding further experience and quality to their defensive reinforcements. The Foxes signed Jonny Evans in a cut-price deal from West Brom this summer and it seems they’re looking to add Cahill to the ranks, with Claude Puel seemingly looking to pair the defender up with Harry Maguire.

The 38-year-old, who has been playing in his native Australia, has been holding talks over a return to the club at The Australia international left Melbourne City in December but remains focused on playing at the 2018 World Cup. Tim Cahill made over 200 Premier League appearances for Everton.

It comes after Cahill blindsided Joyce following the Socceroos’ World Cup qualifying play-off win over Honduras by saying he had some “big decisions” to make about his future as he attempted to earn a spot in the squad for Russia 2018.

“I have never pulled out with any half injury or looked to put my club before my country. If I’m selected [to play against Belgium], I will go out there and give everything I’ve got.”

Cahill is due to turn 33 at the end of the year and now sees his place in the squad under threat.

There were some concerns over whether or not Cahill would make the World Cup squad.

The 32-year-old fell out of favour at Chelsea in the second half of the season, but an impressive end to the season saw him earn a place in Southgate’s squad.

However, Cahill has not been helped by the emergence of Harry Maguire, who alongside John Stones and Kyle Walker, has impressed in a back three.
