Andy Carroll and Winston Reid ruled out for three months with injury

Andy Carroll and Winston Reid ruled out for three months with injury Senior West Ham duo Andy Carroll and Winston Reid will miss at least three months of action through injury, as confirmed on the club’s official website. The pair had been in Switzerland for the Hammers’ pre-season preparations as the squad continue to look forward to the 2018/19 campaign under Manuel Pellegrini. Both Carroll and Reid had been making their way back from long-term injury problems and their progression had appeared to be progressing well. However, as revealed by the club’s new head of medical relations Richard Collinge, the two key Hammers stars will miss the start of the Premier League season. Collinge discussed the extent of Carroll’s injury and revealed that after precautionary scans, results showed that the former England international will need to undergo surgery on his ankle. “Andy played and scored in Sunday’s match but is still reporting some discomfort in his ankle and further scans have revealed that he requires some minor surgery to provide more strength and stability to the area.” It was also revealed by Collinge that Reid will require surgery to help the defender recover further from a long-standing knee problem. “Winston has been suffering some swelling around the knee, following the injury that he sustained at Swansea last season, and he too is in need of explorative surgery to clean up the area.

"We are obviously very sad to hear that Andy and Winston have suffered setbacks," Pellegrini said.

"This is a big blow for them and us, but we hope to see them back in action as soon as possible.

"It does mean that we have lost two players in key areas, though, and we'll continue to work hard with the owners to make further additions to strengthen the playing squad, beyond the five new signings already confirmed."

It is the latest in a long history of injury issues for Carroll, who has played in fewer than 20 Premier League contests in four of the past five seasons with West Ham.

Reid played in 17 games last season for the club after starting 30 the year prior.

West Ham announced the acquisitions of Jack Wilshere and Andriy Yarmolenko earlier this week and have also added Issa Diop, Lukasz Fabianski and Ryan Fredericks to their ranks.

Morrison to discuss terms on a new Albion deal .
Long-serving West Brom man James Morrison is set to discuss terms over a new deal with the Midlands club, according to Birmingham Live. The 32-year old Scotland international is currently out of contract with the Baggies, having had his previous deal expire at the end of last month. Albion boss Darren Moore told Morrison that to take his West Brom career into it’s 12th season, he would need to prove his fitness, having missed much of last season through an Achilles issue. The midfielder has impressed in pre-season, and hasn’t shown any hints of a lingering issue after recovering from his lengthy injury sustained last October on international duty. Morrison scored against Barnsley on Tuesday night, his second start of Albion’s four friendlies so far, and his showings have evidently earned him a spot in Moore’s squad for this season. Moore has previously shown a ruthless streak when it comes to offering experienced players new deals, having already let Claudio Yacob and Gareth McAuley move on this summer.
