Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback is nearing closer to the Tyneside club’s exit door, with a move to Nottingham Forest close to completion.

The 28-year old midfielder joined Forest on loan last January, then accused Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez of not respecting him and only viewing him as ‘a number’.

Subsequently, the midfielder who only has one year left on his current deal, has been told he has no future with the club, and has been left at home while the rest of the first-team squad are at a training camp in Ireland.

However, according to the Northern Echo, the financial side of the deal is proving to be more difficult than expected, with Colback’s current wage with the Magpies far higher than Forest’s wage ceiling.

Despite this, Karanka is hopeful of coming to an agreement within a week, and is set for another round of talks with Colback’s representatives before the weekend.

In an interview with the Nottingham Post, Karanka had this to say on a potential deal for Colback:

“I know Jack, and Jack knows me and the club. He was really important here last season. It is true that he is on our list.”

“We have other players on the list because he is not our player and we cannot say that he is yet. We have to find a solution to that as soon as possible. But if it is not Jack, then we will find another target.”

Colback would be the second midfielder to leave the club this month, after Mikel Merino completed a switch to Real Sociedad on Thursday afternoon.

Brighton plan £10m swoop for Newcastle man .
Brighton and Hove Albion are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden this summer. The holding midfielder is understood to have handed in a transfer request at St James’ Park as he looks to secure a move down south on the basis of ‘exceptional family reasons’. This appears to have prompted Brighton to express an interest in a summer deal and, according to the Chronicle, the Seagulls would be willing to spend in the region of £10 million on Hayden. Rafa Benitez is believed to be reluctant to let Hayden go but seems likely to sanction his sale to allow the midfielder the chance to be closer to his family in the southern region of England. Hayden was a regular for Newcastle in the first half of last season but progressively became more of a rotational option for Benitez, who could be set to lose yet another midfield option. Ki Sung-yueng has joined on a free transfer from Swansea this summer but with Mikel Merino departing for Real Sociedad and Hayden seemingly seeking an exit, Benitez could be forced to look for another central midfielder.
