Astros outfielder and former Oakland Athletic Josh Reddick wasn't pleased with Houston's series against the A's.

"The last four games stunk," Reddick told reporters after Houston's 6-4 loss Thursday, via the San Francisco Chronicle. "I'll tell you that straight up."

Oakland took three out of four games from the Astros after coming into the series with a 1-8 record on the year against the defending World Series champions.

Houston dealt with a tumultuous few days against the A's. Ken Giles was demoted after an outburst in Tuesday's win, Lance McCullers posted one of his worst starts of the season in a Wednesday loss, and the Astros' bullpen blew a lead in the eighth inning Thursday.

The Astros continue to battle with the Mariners for the top spot in the American League West, but Reddick was sure to point out the losses this week to Oakland were not completely about Houston. The Athletics had a whole lot to do with it.

"They are playing really good baseball," Reddick said. "They've got a good, young core over there that can really play baseball."

Oakland is playing the best baseball of any team in MLB right now. The team is 18-5 since June 16, which is the best record of any team in the league during that time.

So the Astros are having a rough go of it, but what cannot be lost is the A's are looking a lot more like buyers than sellers at the trade deadline with a 53-41 record on the season.

Red Sox, Yankees pitchers focusing on winning, not possible wild-card scenario .
The Red Sox and Yankees could both get 100 wins and one team would still have to play in a one-game playoff for the wild card. With New York's loss to the Rays Wednesday, both teams have crossed the 100-game mark for the season and each organization has a chance to get to 100 wins. Despite this success, one of them will have to play in the one-game playoff for the wild card despite a stellar record.
