Chelsea miss out on Higuain and Caldara as duo join Milan

Chelsea miss out on Higuain and Caldara as duo join Milan Chelsea have missed out on the signings of Gonzalo Higuain and Mattia Caldara, with the two players joining AC Milan. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the deal to take the two players to the San Siro is done after drawn-out negotiations. Higuain is expected to join the San Siro outfit on loan, while Caldara is included in the deal to take Leonardo Bonucci back to Juventus. Both players were heavily linked with moves to Stamford Bridge when it became known that they could be on their way out of Juventus. Chelsea have spent the summer chasing a deal for Daniele Rugani, but turned their attention towards Caldara, who they earmarked as a cheaper alternative. A deal for both players became complicated when Bonucci wanted to return to Juventus. The latter only joined Milan last summer but now returns to the Old Lady as he goes in search of the Champions League trophy.

Celtic have confirmed that Emilio Izaguirre has re-signed the club as a free agent.

The Hoops took to Twitter to announce the player after days of speculation about his future.

The defender terminated his deal with Al-Fayha in the Middle East and has re-joined the club after a year away from the Scottish champions.

Izaguirre has already been very vocal in his decision to re-sign for the Hoops, with a two-year deal believed to be on the table.

Once a regular for the Hoops in recent years, the player is now expected to provide competition for Kieran Tierney, who has cemented the left-back position as his own.

Izaguirre joined Celtic the first around from Motagua in 2010 and quickly became a favourite with the fans at Parkhead.

The emergence of Tierney saw him fall out of favour during the latter stages of his first stint at the club, but he provides valuable experience to the current squad.

Rodgers holds team meeting amid uncertainty about his future .
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has been forced to hold a team meeting following uncertainty about his long-term future at the club. The Daily Record claims that the Hoops boss has spoken to his players following reports that suggested he was at loggerheads with the club. “I spoke to the players just to stabilise them a little bit. I think that, despite the noise, it’s important that the players understand the real story. I never once said that I was quitting Celtic. What I said was we wanted the squad to be stronger. So, collectively, in terms of spirit, we’re fine.” Celtic have endured a difficult summer, with speculation surrounding Dedryck Boyata refusing to go away. The defender’s future has been one of the stories of the summer, with Lazio and Fulham both having bids turned down for the Belgian international. Sevilla are the latest team to express an interest, with the La Liga outfit looking to seal a deal. The Hoops have also struggled in terms of recruitment, with only free transfer Emilio Izaguirre following Odsonne Edouard through the doors at Parkhead this summer. The claims are less than ideal for Rodgers, who will guide his Celtic side into a crucial Champions League qualifier on Tuesday night against AEK Athens.
