Griffiths discusses his ongoing contract talks with Celtic

Griffiths discusses his ongoing contract talks with Celtic Leigh Griffiths has revealed that his contract negotiations with Celtic are rapidly drawing towards a positive conclusion. As quoted by BBC Sport, the Scotland international delivered a big update on his current situation at Celtic, with the experienced forward desperate to sign a new deal with the club. “It’s still ongoing. It’s almost completed now and hopefully in the next couple of weeks, it’ll be done and dusted. Hopefully, it’s a nice, long contract. Why would you want to leave a club like Celtic? You’re playing week in, week out playing in front of 60,000 fans every week.” “You’re winning trophies every season. There’s not many players that can say they’ve played for Celtic.” Griffiths’ importance to Brendan Rodgers’ plans at Celtic Park will have only heightened in recent times, with Moussa Dembele completing a big-money move to Ligue 1 giants Lyon last week. Despite having approximately three years remaining on his current deal with the Scottish Premiership champions, Griffiths appears to be positive over extending his stay at Celtic for the foreseeable future. Having scored 100 goals for Celtic, the 28-year-old is setting his sights on bigger and better things with the club. With contract talks progressing well, Griffiths has set himself a goal of scoring another century for the Hoops. “I’m in an elite number of players that have scored 100 goals and I want to extend that, I want to try and get to the 200 now so if the contract gets over the line, that’ll be my next target.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths is on the cusp of signing a new contract with the club, according to manager Brendan Rodgers.

The deal for the Scotland striker to sign is a welcome one according to Rodgers, who still believes the Scotland forward can improve even more.

Speaking about the impending news, he said:

“Yeah, I think it’s pretty close. It’s virtually agreed. I had a long chat with Leigh today and he’s very happy here. He knows what he needs to do to improve and develop as a player. I think 25 yards in he is as good as you’ll get in terms of a goalscorer. But the game has moved on.”

“It’s not just about goals now for strikers. It’s about how they work, how they press. They’ve got to be able to run forward and run back. He is a player I always want to have here because he has that goalscoring threat.”

Rodgers talks up new deals for Forrest and Brown

Rodgers talks up new deals for Forrest and Brown Brendan Rodgers has talked up the chances of both Scott Brown and James Forrest signing new deals at the club. The Scotsman have quoted the Hoops boss as saying the deals are close with both players. “Scott has made it clear he wants to be here and I am sure there will be a deal done pretty soon on that. He is quite relaxed about it. He knows what we think of him here at the club so hopefully that will be done.” “James and his people will be speaking with the club and, likewise, a player we would love to extend here because he has been absolutely brilliant in my time here.” Rodgers will be hoping that the duo can follow Leigh Griffiths, who is also closing in on a new deal with the Bhoys. Brown’s new deal has dominated the headlines recently, with dominant midfielder making his feelings very clear about extending his stay at the club. Forrest was one of the unsung heroes of the previous title-winning campaign with a number of impressive performances, helping the Hoops on their way. The news will come as a huge boost to the club as they prepare to take on St Mirren in a bid to close the gap between themselves and Hearts on Friday night.

The gaffer went on to reiterate how close the deal was to being signed.

“He is a player you know can get a goal. So, yeah, I think we are nearly there on that and pretty soon I hope it can be announced and be done, which is great news for him and great news for Celtic.”

It’s good news for Celtic to tie down the Scot, as Griffiths now plays an even more important role in their forward line after the exit of Moussa Dembele.

Rodgers praises Griffiths early season form .
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers claims a ‘fit and intense’ Leigh Griffiths can only be a good thing for his side. Griffiths scored the only goal to put Celtic into the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Wednesday, where the Hoops saw off St Johnstone to go on to face Hearts. The 28-year old Scotland international has scored five goals in 14 appearances this season, and his performance earlier this week earner praise from his manager. As reported by Sky Sports, Rodgers said this of the former Wolves striker: “Leigh did what he does best, in and around the box, if you look at his three goals – all predatory in their own different ways.” “So to get three goals in three games [is great], and he will tell you himself, he could have had a hat-trick [in the league cup match], but he is always there.” “That is why he has the goal record that he has. He has an incredible goals to games ratio that he has here at Celtic.” “And if he can keep up that level of fitness and keep up that intensity, that work and movement, everything else follow and it really benefits the team.
