Spanish football pundit Guillem Balague, who was speaking on the BBC’s Euro Leagues Podcast, has revealed that both clubs were offered to chance to bring Saul in.

The Spaniard has been one of the rising stars in La Liga in recent years and is now attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest sides.

Chelsea turned down chance to sign Fekir, Lyon president reveals

Chelsea turned down chance to sign Fekir, Lyon president reveals Chelsea spurned the chance to sign Nabil Fekir, according to Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas. The Frenchman had been linked to Liverpool this summer, with a deal agreed and contract signed before concerns about the midfielder’s knee stalled the deal at the final hurdle. The Blues were reported to have been monitoring the situation, exploring the possibility of hijacking Liverpool’s transfer. However, it seems they too rejected the chance to sign the 25-year-old. The Mail report Aulas as saying: “In the beginning, when we thought about our summer transfer window and how to organise the future squad, we thought that he [Fekir] was practically gone.” “That’s why we have been able to adapt things.” “We spoke with Chelsea representatives, and they had no interest at all in him.” “From then on, we realised we could change our plans [as he would stay].” A member of France’s World Cup winning squad, Fekir has made one appearance for Lyon so far this year, coming off the substitutes bench.

It is belived that Barcelona are watching the player very closely as he emerges as a key figure within Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid side.

Saul was also one of the star performers for Luis Enrique’s new-look Spain side during the most recent international break.

Everton rejected Tosun summer loan offer .
Everton rejected a loan offer from Besiktas for striker Cenk Tosun in the summer transfer window, according to Turkish sources. The Turkish club were interested in bringing back their former striker on a short-term deal, but were rebuffed by Everton’s Director of Football Marcel Brands, who reportedly hasn’t shut the door completely on a deal. Tosun, who only signed from Besiktas last January, hasn’t started the new season as many would have hoped. Despite putting in some solid supportive performances, the 27-year old has yet to get off the goalscoring mark this term, having started five of Everton’s six Premier League fixtures. While the big Turk remains Everton’s first-choice forward to lead the line, things could change going forward unless the Turkey international can rediscover his goalscoring form. According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, as translated by Sport Witness, Besiktas sent representatives to England last summer to hold talks with Brands over a prospective loan arrangement, with the Istanbul-based club desperate for a striker following the sale of Álvaro Negredo. While Brands turned down the Super Lig club’s offer, Fotomac report that the Dutchman could still be open to considering an approach in the future, presumably if Tosun doesn’t start scoring soon.
