Chelsea turned down chance to sign Fekir, Lyon president reveals

Chelsea turned down chance to sign Fekir, Lyon president reveals Chelsea spurned the chance to sign Nabil Fekir, according to Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas. The Frenchman had been linked to Liverpool this summer, with a deal agreed and contract signed before concerns about the midfielder’s knee stalled the deal at the final hurdle. The Blues were reported to have been monitoring the situation, exploring the possibility of hijacking Liverpool’s transfer. However, it seems they too rejected the chance to sign the 25-year-old. The Mail report Aulas as saying: “In the beginning, when we thought about our summer transfer window and how to organise the future squad, we thought that he [Fekir] was practically gone.” “That’s why we have been able to adapt things.” “We spoke with Chelsea representatives, and they had no interest at all in him.” “From then on, we realised we could change our plans [as he would stay].” A member of France’s World Cup winning squad, Fekir has made one appearance for Lyon so far this year, coming off the substitutes bench.

Everton and Manchester United both missed out on the chance to sign Spain’s Saul Niguez as a youngster.

Spanish football pundit Guillem Balague, who was speaking on the BBC’s Euro Leagues Podcast, has revealed that both clubs were offered to chance to bring Saul in.

Saul, now 23, was offered to the Toffees at the age of just 18 but they were not interested.

Manchester United also had the player put to them on a plate when he was 20, but they also declined the offer.

The Spaniard has been one of the rising stars in La Liga in recent years and is now attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest sides.

Richarlison backs Bernard to be a hit with the Everton faithful .
Richarlison is tipping fellow summer signing Bernard to emerge as a fan favourite at Goodison Park. Speaking to Everton’s website, the Brazilian backed his fellow countryman to make a big impact after what was just his second appearance for the club against West Ham. The result may not have gone how the Toffees envisaged, but Richarlison believes it was a good start for Bernard. “He is highly thought of in Brazil. He is known as Joyful Legs, so he is the type of player who will bring joy to the Everton fans. He will be popular here and, hopefully, have a great season and be a big influence on Everton.” Bernard joined the club in the summer from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk on a free transfer. Chelsea and Italian side Milan were also heavily linked with the player, but it was Everton who won the race to sign him. He’s a player that can add some much-needed creativity to Everton’s side, with the club looking to play more expansive football under Marco Silva this season.
