Shaqiri dreaming of winning the Champions League with Liverpool

Shaqiri dreaming of winning the Champions League with Liverpool Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri has revealed that he has been dreaming of winning the UEFA Champions League ever since he joined the Merseyside club. As reported on Inside Futbol, Shaqiri has already won the prestigious competition whilst he was with German Bundesliga club Bayern Munich in 2013. The former Stoke City player has become a fan favourite at Anfield with some impressive performances in recent matches. He managed to score his first goal for the club on Saturday as Liverpool convincingly defeated Cardiff City 4-1 at Anfield in the Premier League. The 27-year-old is now eager to win the trophy for the second time in his career. He said: “I won the Champions League with Bayern Munich and that was an unbelievable feeling.” “I dream about doing that with Liverpool and why not? It’s great memories, so why not a second time?” “We have the quality to go very far and last year they got to the final. They didn’t win it but we will try to do the same again this year. There is a long way to go but we have to keep our performances good.” Shaqiri has found himself being deployed in an attacking midfield position in recent matches and he has thrived in the role. With two midfielders sitting behind him, it allows him to express himself and gives him the freedom to roam around the pitch, which is when he is very dangerous.

Aldridge hails Liverpool summer signing Shaqiri

Aldridge hails Liverpool summer signing Shaqiri Former Liverpool star John Aldridge has hailed Xherdan Shaqiri as the club’s most impressive summer signing. The winger was recruited in a cut-price deal by the Reds during the summer transfer window, with Shaqiri penning a long-term contract following a move from relegated Stoke City. Liverpool were able to secure the signing of Shaqiri for a reported fee of £13 million, fending off other potential suitors in the process. Writing in his latest column for the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge waxed lyrical about the recent displays from Switzerland international Shaqiri. He said: “When Shaqiri came on against Cardiff City the game changed and we became unpredictable. They seemed to have us boxed off before he came on but then his ingenuity, his experience, his movement and excellent passing changed everything. And what a goal too.” “The Swiss winger has put himself in a really good position when he’s played over the last few games he hasn’t dropped below an eight out of 10. He’s been absolutely excellent.” “I think Shaqiri at £13million seems to be the best bit of summer transfer business Klopp has done.” Shaqiri netted his first goal in Liverpool’s colours on Saturday afternoon as he slotted home to contribute to his side’s comprehensive 4-1 win against Cardiff City at Anfield. The former Bayern Munich wide man was signed to provide additional attacking depth to the ranks for Liverpool but has impressed when called upon following his summer arrival. Shaqiri will hope to continue in a similar vein of form as Liverpool gear up to take on Arsenal this weekend.

Galatasaray want to take Divock Origi on loan.
Turkish giants Galatasaray want to take Liverpool forward Divock Origi on loan in January and have reportedly contacted the Reds about a possible move. Twitter: Galatasaray have made contact with Liverpool over a January loan for Divock Origi (@DeanJonesBR) Origi has failed to break into the first-team picture this season at Anfield, managing just two appearances off the bench in the Reds’ Champions League fixtures with Napoli and Red Star Belgrade. The Belgian international spent last season on loan with Wolfsburg and despite getting the game time he needed, he could only manage six goals in 36 appearances. With Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge all ahead of Origi in the pecking order in terms of players to lead the line for Liverpool, it looks a matter of time before the 23-year-old leaves the club. Liverpool would prefer to cash in on the forward, and Wolves are said to be interested in him, but a loan move certainly isn’t off the cards at this point.
