Hodgson dismisses claims that Palace will move for Welbeck

Hodgson dismisses claims that Palace will move for Welbeck Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has rejected claims that the club will move for Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck in January. As quoted by Football London, the Eagles manager addressed the media as he looked ahead to his side’s Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening. Hodgson was quizzed over whether or not he was planning to move for England international Welbeck in January, amid reports that a move was being readied by Palace. The experienced manager was quick to quieten down the speculation, however, and stated that no discussions regarding a move for Welbeck have taken place. Hodgson said: “I must be perfectly honest with you and say that I haven’t had a serious meeting with the scouting department – they are getting on with their work and we have several meetings scheduled later in November and December.” “Maybe then they will tell me what they are thinking in various positions, but if you ask me now: ‘Have I spoken about Danny Welbeck or has anyone spoken to me about Danny Welbeck’, the answer is no. So I have no idea where this has come from, you would have to ask the person who wrote it I guess.” Welbeck has not been a prominent figure in Unai Emery’s plans at Arsenal this season, with the Spaniard opting to utilise Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette as his primary attacking options. The striker’s future remains under intense scrutiny but following Hodgson’s recent comments, it seems a move to Selhurst Park is an unlikely outcome for Welbeck.

Hodgson unconcerned by Wan-Bissaka exit talk

Hodgson unconcerned by Wan-Bissaka exit talk Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is unconcerned over reports linking Aaron Wan-Bissaka with a move to Manchester City. The Eagles manager discussed the young right-back’s future at Selhurst Park during his pre-match press conference ahead of Palace’s encounter with Tottenham Hotspur. As quoted by Football London, Hodgson was quick to insist that he has no concerns over the prospect of Wan-Bissaka departing South London. The former England boss said: “I always wonder when I hear or see those reports what Kyle Walker and Danilo are thinking. It is very easy to link anybody with anybody. I have no idea if there is any truth in it – you would have to ask Pep Guardiola but I doubt he would give you an answer.” “As far as we are concerned we have him as our player and he is under contract with us and we have no desire or intention of selling him, so it is not anything that occupies my waking moments, or sleeping moments either for that matter.” Wan-Bissaka has established himself as a key part of Hodgson’s plans for the season ahead and has caught the eyes of many with some cultured displays for Palace. In recent times, City have been linked with a swoop for the player, who is currently contracted to Palace until the summer of 2022 following his recent extension at the club. Nevertheless, Hodgson does not appear to be fazed by the reports linking Wan-Bissaka with a move away, as the youngster continues to impress.

Hodgson claims Townsend cannot do much more.
Roy Hodgson has hailed Andros Townsend’s impact at Crystal Palace, saying he cannot do much more than he is currently. The 27-year old winger, who is aiming to score more goals this season, has already scored twice – the same amount he managed last campaign. Both goals were against West Brom in the Carabao Cup, meaning the former Tottenham and Newcastle wide-man has yet to score in the Premier League. However, Hodgson isn’t worried, and has claimed that he is happy with Townsend’s all-round contribution so far this season. Talking ahead of his side’s clash against Chelsea on Sunday, Hodgson said: “Well he can’t do more than he does, which is work very hard on his game and the tactical side of the game that we work on, and to give his all, that’s all he can do.” “The fact is we are creating chances and with the quality of players we have, I am sure they will be converted sooner rather than later.” “But it is good to hear the players are accepting that responsibility and taking on that accountability, and I find that very consoling to know that the messages we are preaching are getting across and the players are taking responsibility.” “He has been an ever present since I have been here, because his work rate, his endeavour, his determination and his professionalism has been an enormous help in last season’s fight for survival, and it will be an important factor for us this season as we try to move up the table.
