Maddison set for Leicester return but Vardy and Maguire miss out

Maddison set for Leicester return but Vardy and Maguire miss out Leicester City manager Claude Puel has confirmed that James Maddison will be fit enough to be named in the squad to face Brighton on Saturday. Speaking at his pre-match press conference, as reported by Sky Sports News, Puel confirmed that Maddison has recovered well after dropping out of the England squad through injury. “Maddison came back in training, he can be in the squad. For Maguire, it is too early. Jamie [Vardy] had a pain in the last game and came back today. We’ll see tomorrow.” However, it is not such good news for ex-England international Jamie Vardy, who remains a doubt for the game. The meeting with Brighton has also come too quickly for defender Harry Maguire, who will not be involved in the clash at the AMEX. The Foxes are looking to make it four games without defeat on Saturday and they know that three points could take them into touching distance of the top six if other results go their way. Meanwhile, Brighton will themselves hope to get back to winning ways after losing to league strugglers Cardiff prior to the international break.

Claude Puel (French pronunciation: [klod pɥɛl]; born 2 September 1961) is a French football manager and former player who is currently the manager of Premier League club Leicester City.

Leicester City boss Claude Puel admits he is unsure if striker Jamie Vardy requires surgery on a troublesome groin injury.

Vardy scored in Leicester's Premier League defeat of Watford on Saturday but has been playing through the pain.

The former England striker is a doubt for Wednesday's trip to Fulham, which is a reunion with former Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri, who won the 2015-16 title at the club.

And Puel is unsure whether Vardy will be able to take his place in the Leicester squad as they seek to extend a five-match unbeaten run in the league.

"I will see tomorrow," Puel told reporters on Monday. "I cannot say which players have a problem but I do not know at the moment my starting players in two days.

Southampton manager Claude Puel is unsure if Virgil van Dijk will be fit to face Liverpool in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday. Van Dijk was unable to recover after sustaining an ankle injury following a challenge from Jamie Vardy early in the second half of Southampton's 3-0 Premier

"We will see. I don't know for the moment. I know he felt something but we will see with him and my medical staff."

Asked if Vardy may need an operation, Puel said: "I don't know. It's a balance to know his feelings step by step.

"Tomorrow will be another day, it will be for Jamie and for all the other players that feel something [an injury]. I don't know the players that are available for this game.

"It's an important game and I hope the other players will be ready in their minds to play and replace another team-mate."

Vardy has scored five goals in 12 Premier League appearances for Leicester so far this season.

Vardy to return for Palace clash.
Leicester City will be buoyed by the return of star striker Jamie Vardy for their upcoming clash against Crystal Palace, the Daily Mail reports. The former England international has been sidelined in recent weeks as he continues to work his way back from a groin problem. After missing the Foxes’ last two outings, it is reported that he will be fit and available for selection as the team look to bounce back to winning ways against Roy Hodgson’s men. Leicester boss Claude Puel discussed the condition of the 31-year-old with the media as he looked ahead to the match against the Eagles. The Frenchman said: “Jamie came back this morning with the squad and I think he will be in the squad for this game.” Vardy hasn’t scored freely this season but remains a pivotal player for his side. The forward has found the back of the net on five occasions from 12 Premier League appearances. A win against Palace for Leicester could see them move up to seventh place on the table this weekend.
