Leeds approach Newcastle over Woodman deal

Leeds approach Newcastle over Woodman deal Championship high-flyers Leeds United have reportedly approached Newcastle over a potential deal to sign Freddie Woodman in January. Chronicle Live reports that Marcelo Bielsa’s men have targetted the England youth international after suffering an injury crisis between the sticks. Both senior goalkeepers Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Jamal Blackman, who is on loan from Chelsea, are suffering from respective injuries. Woodman has been heavily linked with moves away from Newcastle for some time as he sets his sights on first-team football. The promising youngster has previously been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, but Leeds would be able to offer the player first-team football as they continue their push to secure promotion to the Premier League. Newcastle have been keen to keep hold of the player, but with first-team football at St James’ Park looking unlikely anytime soon, they may well struggle to convince him into sticking around for that opportunity.

Arsenal have been given a significant boost in their pursuit of France and Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi, after the player’s father told the Spanish side that he wants to leave the club. Chelsea have been given a boost in their pursuit of Miralem Pjanic, with Man City boss Pep Guardiola confirming the club aren't in for the player. As per Don Balon, Chelsea are keen on bringing Pjanic to Stamford Bridge this summer, so Man City denying their interest in him will be a big boost for the Blues.

Celtic’s pursuit of Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman may not be over after all.

It looked as if the player was set to join Leeds on loan in the new year, but Marcelo Bielsa has revealed that a move to Elland Road is not on the cards for the player.

With Woodman continuing to be linked with a move away from St James’ Park, Bielsa’s latest comments offer hope to both Arsenal and Celtic, who were linked with deals to sign the goalkeeper on a permanent basis.

TalkSPORT, who cite claims from the Mirror, reveal that Arsenal, Leeds and Celtic are interested in signing the player during the January transfer window. Woodman is highly rated at Newcastle but has failed to break into their first-team plans. The England youth international has been tipped for a big move from a young age, despite the lack of senior appearances. Leeds are said to have launched an approach to sign the player after suffering a goalkeeping crisis at Elland Road, however, new reports reveal they will face competition for his signature. With Craig Gordon due to turn 36 at the end of the year, Celtic are likely to be in the market for his replacement in the not too distant future. Western Melbourne given major boost in Scott Brown pursuit.
Western Melbourne have been given a major boost in their hopes of landing Scott Brown from Celtic. The Daily Mail reports that the Australian club have been awarded a spot in the A-League, something that was believed to be a deciding factor in whether or not they would pursue a deal. Melbourne have been linked with a move for Brown, with the club eager to make him their marquee signing ahead of the 2019-20 Australian season. Brown is out of contract at Celtic next summer and it remains to be seen if he will put pen to paper on a new deal. Talks over an extension at Parkhead are believed to be ongoing, but with a three-year contract on the table in Australia, Brown could look to finish his career down under. Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that the club will give the midfielder time to weigh up his options before making a decision. “Scott just deserves the time. He has a great relationship with the club and we want him to stay and at the minute he’s just concentrating on trying to get himself fit. Obviously if there’s a real big financial incentive (from elsewhere) then it’s very hard to deny players the opportunity to do that.
