Nevin backs Clarke to be Rodgers' eventual successor

Nevin backs Clarke to be Rodgers' eventual successor Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke is being tipped to replace Brendan Rodgers at Celtic after his club’s fine start to the season. Speaking ahead of the meeting between two sides on Saturday, Pat Nevin has told the Daily Record that Clarke could be the ideal fit for Celtic when Rodgers does eventually move on. While there is not believed to be an imminent exit at Parkhead, the club is well aware that the former Liverpool boss could be on the move in the not too distant future. “The other worry is that if – for whatever reason – Brendan Rodgers was to leave Celtic, then he [Clarke] would be the obvious replacement for him. Steve has European experience and he’s coached and managed at a high level plus he knows how to get the most out of the players he works with so he would tick every box for Celtic.” “Plus he grew up supporting them – when we were at Stamford Bridge the Celtic result was always the first one we would look for after our game was finished on a Saturday afternoon.” Rodgers has been linked with a host of jobs in England following the success he has enjoyed with the Hoops. Thanks to a 2-0 win over Livingston on Wednesday night, Kilmarnock moved to the top of the Scottish Premiership, with many now suggesting that they could rival the Hoops in the title race this season. Clarke has long been a highly regarded coach in the game and he has impressed since taking the number one job at Kilmarnock.

Lineker famously hosted Match of the Day in his boxer shorts in 2016 after honouring a promise to do so if his beloved Leicester won the Premier League title.

And the former England striker received a cheeky request from actor and Kilmarnock fan Steven Cree, who is known for his work in the television series Outlander and has appeared in films such as Maleficent, 51 Degrees North and Churchill.

Cree asked Lineker to wear a “Killie top or Killie pants if you really want” on the show should the Ayrshire side claim a first Scottish title since 1965.

After the Livingston win, Cree tweeted Lineker: “If Kilmarnock end the season top of the league will you present Match of The Day wearing a killie top? Or killie pants if you really want.”

Lineker responded with a tweet: “I’ll do Killie socks.”

To which Cree replied: “I’ll knit them myself!!”

Alisson has made Liverpool "genuine contenders", claims Gary Neville.
Gary Neville has pinpointed Alisson as Liverpool’s key man in their Premier League title bid. The 26-year-old has made a fantastic start to life with the Reds, conceding just six goals in 16 league games. His presence between the sticks has been vital in Jurgen Klopp’s side topping the table and Neville has been as impressed as anyone. Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, the former Manchester United man said he is Liverpool’s key player: “Alisson has saved Liverpool on numerous occasion this season; earned them big points.” “Great goalkeepers win you point after point after point after point. You don’t always notice it. So is Van Dijk the biggest impact on that team? No it’s not.” “Look at the stats: 86% save ratio – the highest in the league. Last season it was 64% (ranked 19th).” “Yes, the two young lads alongside Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez are fantastic – and I love watching them play – but for me it’s the goalkeeper [Alisson] who has made all the difference and makes them genuine contenders.” It is hard to argue with Neville, although Virgil van Dijk’s influence is also enormous, as well as a number of attacking stars, most notably Mohamed Salah. Alisson is comfortably the best goalkeeper Liverpool have had since the peak years of Pepe Reina’s time at the club and it is making a huge difference. The Brazil international will come up against Neville’s former club United at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, in another test of his credentials.
