Arsenal target Weigl set for Dortmund stay

Arsenal target Weigl set for Dortmund stay Arsenal’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl looks set to end in failure. Lucien Favre has seemingly talked up the chances of the German midfielder staying beyond the January transfer window, as reported by Calciomercato. “In midfield we have Witsel, Delaney, Weigl and Dahoud: all four are indispensable for our project” Milan, Roma and Arsenal have all been linked with deals to sign Weigl in January. Once a regular in the heart of Dortmund’s midfield, Weigl had fallen out of favour with the Bundesliga side this season, casting doubts over his long-term future at the club. The form of both Thomas Delaney and Axel Witsel have meant regular football has been hard to come by. Roma were looking to snap up the player on loan, while Arsenal were also keen to extend their Dortmund connections, with the likes of Sokratis, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan already at the club. Weigl has been highly rated at Dortmund for some time, so it was unlikely that the German side would be willing to let the midfielder leave the club without a fight.

Julian Weigl has a Dortmund contract that runs until the end of the 2020/21 season. Arsenal are on the search for midfield reinforcements due to the imminent exits of both Aaron Ramsey and Arsenal will have to see off severe competition from numerous European clubs in the quest to sign Chelsea

Arsenal will need several signings if they're to match the strength of the Premiership big boys. But what are the done deals and new players in the Arsenal team for 2016?

Arsenal are expected to face competition from Roma in their bid to sign Julian Weigl from Borussia Dortmund.

According to reports in Italy, Roma’s director of football Monchi is keen to bring the player to Serie A.

Arsenal’s head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is also said to be an admirer and could look to bring yet another Dortmund player to the Emirates.

The report claims that Roma are hopeful of signing the player on a loan deal in January until the end of next season.

Weigl has fallen out of favour in the Bundesliga and it has been suggested he could be on the move in the new year.

Arsenal target Weigl linked with PSG switch

Arsenal target Weigl linked with PSG switch Arsenal could miss out on a deal for Julian Weigl, with the midfielder linked with a move to Paris Saint Germain. According to La Parisien, via Sports Witness, Weigl could be on his way to the French capital initially on loan, before a permanent deal in the Summer. Weigl would join the French champions for a fee of over €20 million according to the reports, meaning he would reject a switch to Arsenal. The 23-year-old has failed to force his way into Lucien Favre’s plans at Dortmund, and could be on the way out. Weigl has found first-team action limited at Dortmund this season, despite making numerous appearances before this season. Arsenal had been one of the side’s interested in Weigl, and would have to beat PSG’s offer to have any chance of securing a deal for the midfielder. The midfielder has struggled with injuries as of late, and missed the World Cup due to the knock.

Roma . Weigl , despite being quite young, has already managed to cement his place in Dortmund’s starting line-up, as last season the midfielder managed to make Weigl ’s composure on the ball and wide passing range would make him a great addition for Real, now all that remains is to see whether

The midfielder remains highly regarded at Dortmund, but the arrival of Belgian midfielder Axel Witsel means he has found game time hard to come this season under Lucien Favre.

Italian outfit Milan have also been credited with an interest recently, with the midfielder unlikely to be short of suitors if he is allowed to leave the Bundesliga club.

Chelsea to rival Arsenal for Cengiz Under signing in January.
Chelsea have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Roma forward Cengiz Under, with the two clubs set to battle for his signature in January. That’s according to Football London, who claim the London rivals are both interested in bringing him in. Under has been in impressive form for Roma this season, scoring five goals and registering four assists. Maurizio Sarri is thought to be keen on acquiring more quality in wide attacking areas, despite already having Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro in his squad. Bayern Munich are also in the running to sign the 21-year-old, however, seeing him as the perfect long-term replacement for Arjen Robben. Under’s preference is the Premier League, though, which means it could be a straight shootout between Chelsea and Arsenal. The Gunners have been tipped to sign him after a season-ending injury to Danny Welbeck left them short in attack. Only a huge bid will make Roma consider letting one of their key men go next month.
