Celtic will not sign Vincent Janssen in January

Celtic will not sign Vincent Janssen in January Celtic are not planning on a move to sign Tottenham Hotspur centre-forward Vincent Janssen in the January transfer window. According to the Daily Mail, Celtic are not set to make an offer for the striker, despite being linked earlier this month. Celtic were touted with having interest in a loan swoop for Janssen, but this appears to be far from the case. Brendan Rodgers does want to bring in a new striker in January, but he is currently looking at other targets – such as PSG forward Timothy Weah. Janssen is set to leave Tottenham in January having not played a single minute of competitive action for the club so far this season. He spent last season on loan to Fenerbahce in Turkey, scoring five times in 17 appearances. Since joining Tottenham for £17m from AZ in 2016, Janssen has scored six goals in 36 appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Celtic trio Lewis Morgan, Jack Hendry and Youssouf Mulumbu are set to leave the club on loan this month.

As reported by the Scotsman, Rodgers revealed his plans for the rest of the month, with the three players looking to depart in search of regular first-team football.

Neither of the aforementioned players have found game time easy to come by this season.

Mulumbu only joined the Hoops in the summer but has been used sparingly by Rodgers, despite impressing during his time at Kilmarnock.

Speaking about the midfielder, Rodgers explained:

Brendan Rodgers: Timothy Weah can be a great signing

Brendan Rodgers: Timothy Weah can be a great signing Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has publicly admitted that he’s hoping to bring Paris Saint-Germain forward Timothy Weah to the club on a six-month loan deal. The 18-year-old, who happens to be the son of AC Milan legend George Weah, has already visitied Celtic’s training ground and Rodgers says that the American international seemed happy with what he saw. As reported by the Express, Rodgers said he was impressed with the youngster and that he hopes Celtic’s good relationship with PSG could be enough to secure a deal. He said: “He’s a great boy with sensible head. He knows what he wants, he’s an international player who can play in a couple of positions at the top of the field – so if it comes off, it can be a great signing for us. We were granted permission by PSG to speak with him and he came over with his representatives. He had a great day here. We have good relations with PSG, so he came over. He sent me a lovely message afterwards thanking everyone and saying that he enjoyed it, so we shall see.” Rodgers also confirmed that PSG are looking to send the teenager out on loan and that he hopes to have a deal completed sooner rather than later. “They clearly want him to go on loan to get experience. He is a good kid, a great boy and a great profile in terms of his game. There are lots of selling factors for him to come here.

Brendan Rodgers has strong links with Chelsea, where he was a youth coach and reserve-team boss before enjoying success as a manager with Swansea Musonda has made just two starts since joining Celtic on an 18- month loan deal. It could have repercussions if Brendan Rodgers ever hopes to be

Central defender Hendry has shown flashes of promise but has fallen out of favour and needs regular game time to get his development back on track.

Rodgers explained why game time is important for the defender.

“It’s just about time. When you think of Jack coming in a year ago it was a steep learning curve for him, playing under big pressure and big games.”

“What he has is potential because there are a lot of really good things to his game and of course when you make mistakes at the big clubs then of course it gets highlighted even more.”
