Until a player signs a contract, it is really tough to know exactly what his offers were. That point was driven home Tuesday with Manny Machado.

The report of an eight-year, $250 million offer he got from the White Sox might not be accurate, according to Fancred Sports.

And while that report may be off, another report's potential contract numbers appear to be inaccurate as well.

MLB hot stove: Yankees reportedly offer Manny Machado $220M deal

MLB hot stove: Yankees reportedly offer Manny Machado $220M deal While the offer is aggressive, the report notes "a lot of teams are in that range" and "another club has gone further than that." He also stated the Yankees aren't going to be the highest bidder. The report comes after Yankees principal owner and managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner addressed why New York hasn't signed Machado or Bryce Harper. "If there's a narrative that we're not spending money and being cheap, it's just false," Steinbrenner said Thursday, via ESPN. "I mean, we're well above $200 million (in payroll) – we're at $220 (million) right now – and we're well above where we were last year.

ESPN and USA Today reported that Chicago offered a seven-year, $175-million deal to Harper. Those reports prompted a harshly worded statement from Machado's agent calling the numbers false.

The deal appears to be somewhere in the middle, according Fancred's "educated guesses" and "(a)t least at the moment."

The Yankees reportedly offered Machado an eight-year, $220 million deal, so odds are pretty good the number from the White Sox is somewhere around that range — but no one knows for sure what it is at the moment.

MLB hot stove: Padres looking for SP after addition of Manny Machado, report says.
The Padres have been active in the free-agent market this year and they aren't slowing down even with spring training beginning. San Diego is looking to add a starting pitcher after adding Manny Machado at third base this week, according to Fancred Sports. The Padres' No. 1 priority this offseason seemed to be adding a third baseman and they got that in Machado. Now the consensus around MLB is they need to add to their rotation. Who the pitcher they will add is remains to be seen, but according to the report, 2015 American League Cy Young award winner Dallas Keuchel will not be the one they sign.
