Hasenhuttl happy with Arsenal preparation

Hasenhuttl happy with Arsenal preparation Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl believes his side should be fully prepared ahead of their trip to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, following two weeks of preparation. Saints travelled to Tenerife for a training camp following their defeat to relegation rivals Cardiff a fortnight ago and Hasenhuttl revealed the time spent both on and off the training pitches while away has been very beneficial for the squad. Hasenhuttl’s side could have moved five points clear of the relegation zone with a victory over Cardiff, but the Bluebirds scored a 93rd minute winner at St. Mary’s to leapfrog their opponents and push Saints into the relegation zone.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has praised Yan Valery for his performance in the team’s 3-2 defeat at Manchester United.

Speaking to the club’s official website after the match, the Austrian was quick to lavish praise on the young defender following his first ever goal in senior football.

Valery opened the scoring with a thunderous effort from outside the box on the right-hand side.

However, his goal would eventually count for little as Manchester United were able to secure a late victory in front of their home fans.

We were not far away - Hasenhuttl praises beaten Saints A late Romelu Lukaku goal denied Southampton a point at Old Trafford, but boss Ralph Hasenhuttl had only praise for his side.

Romelu Lukaku’s brace after Andreas Pereira’s curling effort meant that Valery’s wonder-goal and James Ward-Prowse’s free-kick were rendered insufficient as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men took all three points.

Nevertheless, Hasenhuttl took the positives from the defeat and highlighted the Frenchman as a standout performer in the match on Saturday afternoon. He said:

“That’s something you demand from a young player. He gets the trust from us and then I want to see a brave player who is believing in himself and Yan made a fantastic development until now.”

“Defensively he is better now and also offensively that’s exactly the way we want to go. I’m very happy for him that he scored for the first time, it was a fantastic goal and to shoot like this at Old Trafford shows how confident he is.”

Ward-Prowse praises Hasenhuttl following Spurs victory

Ward-Prowse praises Hasenhuttl following Spurs victory James Ward-Prowse praised Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl following their 2-1 victory over Tottenham on Saturday. The midfielder scored his second free kick in successive league games to complete the comeback for Saints, who fell behind in the first half after Harry Kane gave Spurs the lead. The away side spurned a host of chances, hitting the post and the bar in the opening 45 minutes, while Angus Gunn produced a fine save to deny Kane from doubling Tottenham’s advantage.

Valery will be keen to continue his impressive run of form against Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.

Southampton legend David Peach has backed Ralph Hasenhuttl to keep the club in the Premier League and believes he holds the qualities needed to be a great manager. The Saints currently sit just two points above the relegation zone in 16th but have shown vast improvements since Hasenhuttl took charge at the start of December. Speaking to the Southern Daily Echo, Peach insisted he’s confident the Austrian is the right man to bring the good days back to St. Mary’s. “The manager’s come in at a difficult time but he’s done well. I think he can keep us up and do well next season. He’s got a bit of pedigree, he’s enthusiastic.
