Four Findings: Liverpool 5-0 Watford

Four Findings: Liverpool 5-0 Watford After the disappointing draw at Old Trafford, Liverpool needed to find the right response to dispel any notions they are undeserving of remaining top of the table. Playing host to Watford, the Reds roared past Watford 5-0 at Anfield. Since last season’s opening day surrender for a 3-3 draw, the Reds have battered Watford 13-0 over the course of three matches. If there is a better club to help Liverpool kick on and find their form, they will be hard to find. The Merseysiders make the most of this particular mid-table club.

Southampton moved up to 16th place on the Premier League table with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon.

The Saints headed into the fixture as clear underdogs but turned in an inspired second-half display to put their opponents to the sword at St Mary’s Stadium.

Ralph Hasenhuttl named an unchanged team from the starting line-up he fielded in Southampton’s cruel 3-2 defeat away at Manchester United last weekend, and they performed valiantly once again.

Harry Kane opened the scoring for Spurs as he drifted away from Jannik Vestergaard to fire low and beyond Angus Gunn.

Southampton were far more aggressive after the interval, however, and played with fluency. They began creating more and more chances, and their patience paid off.

Yan Valery scored his second goal in as many games after Tottenham failed to deal with a low ball across the face of goal.

The Saints then went ahead soon after, as James Ward-Prowse curled a sumptuous free-kick beyond the reach of a helpless Hugo Lloris in the Spurs net, sealing a 2-1 win for the hosts.

Here are four findings from what was an incredibly satisfying victory for Southampton.

Midfielders Southampton could target this summer.
Ralph Hasenhüttl has been a revelation for Southampton since his arrival. The Austrian has been in the dugout for 15 Premier League fixtures, collecting 21 points during that time. However, despite Hasenhüttl’s impressive tenure in charge of the Saints, the club are just two points clear of the relegation zone with eight games left to play. Southampton’s league finish will also have a huge impact on any potential summer transfer business. One area Hasenhüttl will surely look to strengthen in the summer is in midfield. The Saints are short of numbers in the midfield department and could do with bolstering their options in the summer.
