Sounds like the # 49 ers will give Dee Ford a multi-year deal once The trade is essentially agreed to — Ford for a 2020 2nd round pick. That assumes the # 49 ers get a deal Ian Rapoport reports that the the San Francisco 49 ers are in discussions with none other than the Kansas City Chiefs for Dee Ford .

According to ESPN, San Francisco will give Ford a five-year, $87.5 million deal once the trade is completed.

With the firing of defensive coordinator Bob Sutton and subsequent hiring of Steve Spagnuolo, the Chiefs are moving from a 3-4 defense to a 4-3 under the new regime. While Ford can play both, he excels as a pass-rushing outside linebacker which made the Chiefs explore a deal.

The interesting thing about a deal to the 49ers, though, is San Francisco also runs a 4-3 defense.

However, with Ford's ability to rush the passer, adding that kind of talent is clearly the priority for the 49ers. San Francisco does have a tendency to play five men on the line of scrimmage on defense, so Ford could be a good fit in that package.
