While most dismissed the trip as a non-issue — including Eli Manning who dropped a great dad joke about the situation — it did open the group up to potential criticism if the team performed poorly in the game.

The Giants have reportedly been trying to trade their star receiver since signing him to a five-year, $90 million deal in 2018.

The reason for that is the team was tired of his antics, according to SNY.

"He had become too much of a pain in the a—," once source told SNY. "And there was a real fear that eventually it would get worse."

The report cites several instances in which Beckham had upset the front office including an incident with a woman in bed and a possible joint, an interview on ESPN in which he was non-committal on the team's quarterback situation, and another in which he missed a game with an injury without warning the team.

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr . has apparently gotten his wish to become the league’s highest-paid receiver in the game. The 25-year-old receiver and the Giants have reportedly agreed to terms on a new mega-extension that would make Beckham the

Simply put — and general manager Dave Gettleman did say it this way — the Giants were done with distractions and OBJ had become just that.

"You've got to eliminate distractions," Gettleman said at the combine, and not specifically about Beckham. "There used to be a thing I used to call 'the a—hole quotient.' The bigger the a—hole you are, the better the player you had to be. Plain and simple. It's funny (but) it's true. It really is. Think of the great players that you've seen around the league who have been just complete jerks. At the end of the day, what was the sum total of their career and their effect on their teams?"

The Giants were passively looking for offers for the better part of the last two years, but they were not going to settle, according to the report. New York was looking for two first-round picks in a deal and nothing less.

What Giants GM Dave Gettleman has done right and wrong in managing roster

What Giants GM Dave Gettleman has done right and wrong in managing roster The Odell Beckham saga was bad, but Dave Gettleman has done some good things managing the Giants, too. Former NFL team exec Jeff Diamond explains what he would have done differently if he were in charge in New York.

Odell Beckham Jr .: 'How come Giants can't throw more than 20 yards?' And [ in the NFL] when everybody leaves they’ve got a family, they’ve got a wife, they’ve got kids to come home to. And…I don’t have that, so I try and build that relationship with my teammates because I want to know who

Odell Beckham Jr . criticizes Giants coaches and Eli Manning in pointed interview. On Sunday, things got worse . The 25-year-old wideout was critical of pretty much everyone in the Giants organization.

Ultimately it got first- and third-round picks in the 2019 draft and a starter in Jabril Peppers to boot. The Giants lost starting safety Landon Collins in free agency to the Redskins and loved Peppers in the 2017 draft, according to SNY, so the match made sense.

New York was also reportedly afraid after the Antonio Brown situation in Pittsburgh that Beckham would do something similar a couple of years into his deal. This was a theoretical possibility, but it was apparently enough for the Giants to start to look at cutting ties with the wide receiver.
