Hodgson: Wan-Bissaka not fazed by transfer speculation

Hodgson: Wan-Bissaka not fazed by transfer speculation Roy Hodgson insists the constant speculation surrounding the future of highly-promising Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka “hasn’t bothered” the player, amidst links with a move to Manchester United at the end of the season. Man United are expected to be on the hunt for a new right-back ahead of club captain Antonio Valencia’s impending departure, and Wan-Bissaka has burst onto the scene this term – replacing Joel Ward as first-choice right-back. The 21-year-old has now made 35 appearances for Palace and has made 99 tackles so far in the current Premier League campaign – the joint-highest amount out of any other player.

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson says that he is not concerned by Aaron Wan-Bissaka missing out on a place in the England squad.

Wan-Bissaka has been highly praised for his performances this season, but was not named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers this month.

The young right-back was, instead, named in the under-21 squad, with Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker and Trent Alexander-Arnold making the senior squad in his position.

Speaking to The Mirror, former England boss Hodgson said this:

Southgate 'loves' Ward-Prowse despite England exclusion

Southgate 'loves' Ward-Prowse despite England exclusion England manager Gareth Southgate has given his reasoning for leaving in-form Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse out of his latest squad. Ward-Prowse looks rejuvenated for the Saints under Ralph Hasenhuttl and has scored in six of his last nine Premier League games. Two of those have come in the form of spectacular free-kicks against none other than Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in last weekend’s huge win. His epic performances caused confusion when Southgate’s squad was revealed earlier today and he wasn’t included, but the Three Lions boss has explained his decision.

Wan - Bissaka has already played for England's Under-21s, but is also eligible to represent Democratic Republic of Congo, and Hodgson expects the 21-year-old to be on Three Lions coach Gareth Southgate ' s radar. Wan - Bissaka has been impressive for Crystal Palace this season, keeping

“He is picked for the England U21s which in itself is a very, very big honour.”

“It is good to know that reading Gareth’s comments that he is obviously aware of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and what he can do.”

“I don’t think Aaron, myself or anyone at the club should start to jumping onto media speculation regarding the player. It is up to him to keep playing well.”

Wan-Bissaka has been a regular at right-back for Palace this season, after initially breaking into the side towards the end of the previous campaign.

He is also eligible to represent DR Congo at international level, through his family.

The Crystal Palace full-back is yet to win a senior cap for the Three Lions, meaning he could switch his international allegiance . DR Congo manager Florent Ibenge has already attempted to make contact with Wan-Bissaka, who did not answer his call, and insists he will only select the player once he confirms his commitment to the African nation. "It depends on him," Ibenge told The Independent. "I sent my scout to watch him four months ago and he sent me a report. He played very well. I won't pick him for the squad, I want to speak with him first. "I called him one month ago but he didn't answer.
