Blue Jays top prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been reassigned to minor league camp.

The news came Thursday in a report from Sportsnet, just days after Guerrero was sidelined with a grade 1 strain of his left oblique.

The move, however, is somewhat procedural since Guerrero was going to miss the rest of spring training anyway, the report noted.

The 19-year-old third baseman initially suffered the injury Friday against Pittsburgh in his most recent Grapefruit League game, but the team didn't announce how or exactly when the injury happened.

Guerrero's major league status have been an ongoing topic and recently caught the attention of the MLB Players Association.

The organization indicated they will be monitoring Toronto to ensure the team isn't manipulating the young slugger's service time.​

Guerrero slashed .381/.437/.636 with 20 home runs, 78 RBIs and a 1.073 OPS in 2018. He went from Rookie ball to Advanced-A to Double-A and finished at Triple-A Buffalo, where he will almost certainly begin this season​.
