Giants GM Dave Gettleman breaks silence since Odell Beckham Jr. trade
"We didn't sign Odell to trade him, but things change. Another team made an offer we couldn't refuse," Gettleman said Monday.
Odell Beckham Jr. seems to be thrilled to be in Cleveland.
The Browns held an introductory press conference for their new receiver Monday, with Beckam lauding the organziation and expressing how excited he is to be with his new team.
“I think this moment is going to be more iconic than we all realize," Beckham said. "… To look back in 10 years, like man I remember April 1, 2019, the start of something great.”

Giants RB Saquon Barkley weighs in on Odell Beckham Jr. trade: 'I was sad to see him go'
“I was sad to see him go,” Barkley told NJ Advance Media. “But, hopefully he continues to have a great career there in Cleveland.” Barkley said he spoke with Beckham shortly after the deal was announced. “We talked over Facetime, he had just gotten traded, so I don’t think he was really happy about it,” Barkley said. “He just gave me some advice about how to handle stuff in the league. He was the same old big brother to me that he’s always been.” Barkley rushed for 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns in 16 games for New York as a rookie last season. He also added four receiving scores.
"I'm very thankful for the opportunity to be here," he said. "Kind of the past is in the past. It was defnitely a shock. I think I've come to grips with everything and processed everything ... but to see my guys here, I'm excited about this."
As for his new teammates, Landry said he cried tears of joy, while Mayfield said he "just started screaming."
“I feel like we spoke this into existence. Him and I dreamed of this … this is surreal,” Beckham said of playing in the NFL with Landry.
"I'm excited and I think it's going to be one of the best things to happen in my life."
New Browns coach Freddie Kitchens also was on hand during the introductory news conference, and told the media he did follow through with his promise to tell Beckham he loved him during their first meeting.
What Giants GM Dave Gettleman has done right and wrong in managing roster
The Odell Beckham saga was bad, but Dave Gettleman has done some good things managing the Giants, too. Former NFL team exec Jeff Diamond explains what he would have done differently if he were in charge in New York.
“I did," Kitchens said. "Gave him a hug too. He told me he loved me. It’s like a love story.”
The Browns acquired Beckham and Olivier Vernon from the Giants on March 13 in a surprise deal. In return, the Giants received Jabrill Peppers, Kevin Zeitler and the No. 17 and No. 95 overall picks in this year's NFL Draft.
Odell Beckham Jr. trade rumors: 49ers would have topped Browns' offer if given opportunity.
The Browns ended up winning the Beckham sweepstakes by sending safety Jabrill Peppers to New York with their 2019 first-round pick and 95th.
