Saints set to miss out on promising Motherwell youngster

Saints set to miss out on promising Motherwell youngster Southampton appear to have missed out on the chance to sign Motherwell’s Stuart McKinstry, with Football Insider reporting that Leeds United are close to agreeing a deal for highly rated youngster. A number of clubs are interested in the 16-year-old, including Saints, but Leeds are reportedly in pole position to land the promising attacker. According to the report, the Yorkshire side have agreed a fee in the region of £400,000 with Motherwell, with a number of add ons included.

Jordy Clasie hasn’t had an easy time of it lately.

The midfielder has been loaned to Feyenoord for the current campaign, where he has turned in a fairly decent season for the Dutch outfit.

Making 34 appearances in all competitions, the 27-year-old has had a much better season than last term, where he endured a rather disastrous loan spell with Belgian side Club Brugge.

The diminutive play-maker has not played for the Saints in two years, and an interview with De Telegraaf (translated by Sport Witness) has revealed that he is playing for his St Mary’s career.

Potter discusses James's future at Swansea amid Saints links

Potter discusses James's future at Swansea amid Saints links Swansea City manager Graham Potter has hinted that he is powerless to keep hold of star man Daniel James. The young Welshman’s performances have caught the eye this season, with three goals scored and his quality on show in attacking midfield. James particularly stood out in Swansea’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester City, as they lost 3-2 after going 2-0 up. Southampton are one of the clubs to be linked with a summer move for the highly-rated 21-year-old, with Ralph Hasenhuttl a keen advocate of youth. While Potter is undoubtedly keen to keep hold of one of his most important players beyond this season, he also accepts that he is ready for Premier League football.

Clasie said:

“Of course my future plays a part in my mindset. Not directly during the matches, but unknowingly outside the competitions. Right now I just want to focus on conquering third place with Feyenoord. I want to close it here as well as possible.”

“I don’t have any influence on what will happen to me afterwards. But of course I play for my future, there is that realisation.”

Ralph Hasenhuttl will attempt to construct a Southampton squad in his own image this summer, and it is not yet clear if Jordy Clasie will be part of his plans.

Targett heaps praise on Saints boss Hasenhuttl.
Southampton left-back Matt Targett has hailed the impact Ralph Hasenhuttl has had since joining the club. Hasenhuttl took over at Southampton back in December, shortly after Mark Hughes was sacked. The Austrian inherited a side five points behind Cardiff at the time, but now sits seven points clear of them with two games left to play – meaning that they will be a Premier League club once again next season. Speaking to The Telegraph, Targett said this: “We definitely won’t be in the same position next season. The manager has been massive. If he didn’t come in I don’t think we would be in this position we are in now.
