Jordy Clasie hasn’t had an easy time of it lately.

The midfielder has been loaned to Feyenoord for the current campaign, where he has turned in a fairly decent season for the Dutch outfit.

Making 34 appearances in all competitions, the 27-year-old has had a much better season than last term, where he endured a rather disastrous loan spell with Belgian side Club Brugge.

The diminutive play-maker has not played for the Saints in two years, and an interview with De Telegraaf (translated by Sport Witness) has revealed that he is playing for his St Mary’s career.

Feyenoord keen to sign Clasie if his Saints contract is terminated

Feyenoord keen to sign Clasie if his Saints contract is terminated Feyenoord would be willing to sign Jordy Clasie permanently this summer if the midfielder is allowed to depart Southampton on a free transfer. According to a report from Dutch news outlet Voetbal International, as cited by Football Oranje, the Eredivisie giants are interested in signing the 27-year-old, but only if his contract at St Mary’s Stadium is terminated. Clasie hasn’t had the desired impact at Southampton following his £8 million move from Feyenoord in the summer of 2015.

Clasie said:

“Of course my future plays a part in my mindset. Not directly during the matches, but unknowingly outside the competitions. Right now I just want to focus on conquering third place with Feyenoord. I want to close it here as well as possible.”

“I don’t have any influence on what will happen to me afterwards. But of course I play for my future, there is that realisation.”

Ralph Hasenhuttl will attempt to construct a Southampton squad in his own image this summer, and it is not yet clear if Jordy Clasie will be part of his plans.

Hasenhuttl speaks out on summer transfer plans.
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has revealed that he is ready to make some signings this summer as he seeks to create a squad in his image. The Austrian has been in the dugout at St Mary’s in December, and didn’t make any new signings during the January transfer window, preferring instead to press on with the tools at his disposal. It seems the 51-year-old knows, however, that he will have to add some fresh talent to the squad ahead of next season as a matter of some urgency.
