Ajer urges Celtic to focus ahead of Scottish Cup clash with Aberdeen Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has warned his teammates that they must focus ahead of their Scottish Cup semi-final with Aberdeen. As reported on the Express, the defender wants his teammates to forget about their league exploits for a moment and concentrate on beating Aberdeen at Hampden Park. The Hoops are targeting a historic domestic treble and Ajer knows that it will not be an easy task next Sunday. He said: “We’ve done well at Hampden recently, but that’s forgotten about now. There’s a new game coming up there and it’s one we have to win.” “We have our targets this season and we have a massive game coming up against Aberdeen.

Neil Lennon has confirmed that he is hopeful Leigh Griffiths will be fit in time for the Scottish Cup final next month.

The popular striker has not played for the Hoops since December, having taken time out of the game because of mental health issues.

Griffiths returned to training at Lennoxtown in March and is “stepping up his recovery programme in a bid to regain full fitness”, according to the Scotsman.

The 28-year-old was at Hampden Park to watch his side beat Aberdeen in the semi-final on Sunday.

Lennon has now revealed that he believes Griffiths could go one better in the final against Hearts on May 25, potentially taking to the Hampden turf:

Lennon will be seen as a failure if Celtic don't win the Scottish Cup says Derek McInnes

Lennon will be seen as a failure if Celtic don't win the Scottish Cup says Derek McInnes Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes believes Neil Lennon will be seen as a failure if he fails to win the league or the Scottish Cup this season, after taking over from current Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers in February. Though the Dons manager admits the Hoops have all but secured the Scottish Premiership title for an eighth consecutive season, he believes Lennon is “on a hiding to nothing” at Celtic should he fail to win the Scottish Cup, according to BBC Sport. McInnes’ Aberdeen face the Hoops in the semi final this weekend looking for their first win against Celtic since February 2016, and the 47-year-old believes Lennon has a difficult job on his hands at Celtic.

“What have we got until then, six weeks?”

“Yeah, it is realistic for Leigh. But he’ll have to play and train for at least two weeks going into that final, so he then has a target of four weeks.”

“He’s had targets since he came back to Lennoxtown. He is working away in the background and doing his double sessions.”

“Again, he’s a player we could have been doing with over the piece as we have been working really with just one striker in Odsonne Edouard.”

“That one striker has done brilliantly for me, but it would be good to have another one in the building.”

“Leigh is getting there. It’s a slow burner, but we understand that as he’s been out for such a long period of time.”

Griffiths has excelled at Celtic since joining from Wolves in 2014, scoring 104 goals in just 198 appearances for the club.

His return would be an added bonus in yet another memorable season, bringing that all important firepower in the final third.

Neil Lennon keen to bring in top striker this summer.
Celtic interim manager Neil Lennon has revealed he is keen to help the Hoops bring in a new striker this summer, the Sunday Post report. Lennon returned to Celtic Park back in February on a deal until the end of the season after Brendan Rodgers left to join Leicester City. The former Hoops midfielder has guided the club to the Scottish Cup final and Celtic have all but secured an eighth consecutive Scottish Premiership title after a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock.
