Leigh Griffiths stepping up Celtic comeback with double sessions

Leigh Griffiths stepping up Celtic comeback with double sessions Interim Celtic boss Neil Lennon has revealed that striker Leigh Griffiths is desperate to feature for the Hoops before the end of the season and is doing double training sessions as a result, according to the Herald, cited by HITC. The 28-year-old, who joined the club from Wolves in 2014, hasn’t featured in a first-team squad since December due to personal reasons. However, Griffiths, who scored a career-best 40 times for Celtic during the 2015-16 campaign under Ronny Deila, is hoping to be available for selection against Hearts in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park next month.

The 2018–19 Scottish League Cup (also known as the Betfred Cup for sponsorship reasons) was the 73rd season of Scotland 's second-most prestigious football knockout competition. The draw for the quarter- finals took place on 19 August 2018 following the conclusion of the Griffiths 83'.

Neil Lennon has confirmed that he is hopeful Leigh Griffiths will be fit in time for the Scottish Cup final next month.

The popular striker has not played for the Hoops since December, having taken time out of the game because of mental health issues.

Griffiths returned to training at Lennoxtown in March and is “stepping up his recovery programme in a bid to regain full fitness”, according to the Scotsman.

The 28-year-old was at Hampden Park to watch his side beat Aberdeen in the semi-final on Sunday.

Lennon has now revealed that he believes Griffiths could go one better in the final against Hearts on May 25, potentially taking to the Hampden turf:

Timothy Weah could miss Scottish Cup final

Timothy Weah could miss Scottish Cup final Timothy Weah could miss the Scottish Cup final if Celtic make it through, according to The Herald. The Hoops face Aberdeen at Hampden Park in the semi-finals on Sunday, looking to keep their ‘treble treble’ dream alive. Should Neil Lennon’s side make it through to the showcase event next month, they may have to make do without Weah. That’s due to the young striker potentially representing the USA at the Under 20s World Cup. The tournament gets underway on May 23rd, with the USA’s first game against Ukraine on May 24th. The Scottish Cup final takes place the following day, proving that Weah has a big decision to make.

“What have we got until then, six weeks?”

“Yeah, it is realistic for Leigh. But he’ll have to play and train for at least two weeks going into that final, so he then has a target of four weeks.”

“He’s had targets since he came back to Lennoxtown. He is working away in the background and doing his double sessions.”

“Again, he’s a player we could have been doing with over the piece as we have been working really with just one striker in Odsonne Edouard.”

“That one striker has done brilliantly for me, but it would be good to have another one in the building.”

“Leigh is getting there. It’s a slow burner, but we understand that as he’s been out for such a long period of time.”

Griffiths has excelled at Celtic since joining from Wolves in 2014, scoring 104 goals in just 198 appearances for the club.

His return would be an added bonus in yet another memorable season, bringing that all important firepower in the final third.

Lowe worried about Forrest threat ahead of semi-final.
Aberdeen defender Max Lowe has pointed out James Forrest as a threat going into the Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday. Celtic and Aberdeen face off as they look to make it to the final of the competition, with Celtic, of course, going for the domestic treble. Lowe says that Forrest is one of the best wingers he has ever played against and that he could be competing in the Premier League. Speaking to Football Scotland, Lowe said this: “ I played
