Why it doesn't matter if Liverpool don't win the league Sunday’s 2-0 win over Cardiff gave Liverpool their highest points tally ever for a Premier League season, yet they still might not end up winning the trophy for the first time. But, that’s not the end of the world. It seems like every other fan in the country wants Liverpool not to win the title, even Manchester United fans would rather see Manchester City hole the trophy aloft on the final day and they might get their wish, however this season shouldn’t be judged solely on whether or not the Trophy is red, it should be based on the teams progress and just how brilliantly they’ve played.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to be offered an extension on his current deal at Liverpool, according to the Daily Mail.

The 25-year-old has suffered a nightmare 12 months with injury, having damaged his cruciate ligament in the Champions League clash with Roma last April.

The popular midfielder is now back fit again, however, and made his first appearance of the season in the Reds’ 5-0 win over Huddersfield last Friday.

Although there have been concerns about whether or not Oxlade-Chamberlain would return the same player after injury, the club clearly see him as a long-term key man.

They reportedly want to add an extra year to his contract, taking him through to 2023.

Oxlade-Chamberlain could be named in Liverpool’s squad for Wednesday’s huge Champions League semi-final first leg clash with Barcelona at Camp Nou.

He is still not ready to be starting big games, but could potentially make an impact off the substitutes’ bench.

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to play a role in Liverpool’s last few games of the season. The midfielder has just recently returned from a nightmare injury that ruled him out of action for over a year. He ruptured knee ligaments towards the end of last season after he was just finding the best form of his career for the Reds.
