Nearly a year has passed since Houston and Golden State last met in a Game 6, and for as much as things have stayed the same in that time, there are also some big differences.

The Warriors are without forward Kevin Durant after he suffered a right calf strain in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals. He will miss at least the remainder of this series. Golden State was able to channel its pre-Durant-era style after the injury and win Wednesday's game. It rode 51 combined points from Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson — and Draymond Green's 11 assists and 12 rebounds — to gain a 3-2 series advantage.

The void left by the two-time reigning NBA Finals MVP will be grand: Durant was averaging a playoff-best 35.4 points per game. His absence isn't made any easier by an already thin roster that has been without starting center DeMarcus Cousins since Game 3 of the first round.

In 2018, the Rockets secured a 3-2 edge over Golden State in the Western Conference finals but lost Chris Paul for their final two games to a hamstring injury. Houston will need more from MVP candidate James Harden if it wants to play the role the Golden State did last year. Despite finishing with a game-high 31 points in the Rockets' loss Wednesday, Harden took just one shot in the final 8:30 of a close game as the Warriors successfully held off a Houston comeback.

While the Rockets will have Paul this time, the 34-year-old may be starting to feel the wear and tear of an NBA season. Paul has hit just seven of his last 25 shots as his minutes have increased by nearly 22 percent this series from the 32 minutes a game he averaged during the regular season.

Should the Rockets successfully defend their home court, Game 7 will be played Sunday afternoon in Oakland, Calif.
