Stephen Gostkowski lives for the moments he's most well known for.

The Patriots kicker re-signed with New England on a two-year contract last month but revealed Tuesday that he considered negotiating a deal with another team.

While Gostkowski admitted he wanted to test his first true stint in free agency, he's grateful to be able to stay with the team that drafted him.

"To me, it means a lot," Gostkowski said, via the Providence Journal. "It's a very fragile position. It doesn't take much to be at the top or the bottom in a position such as mine. Just the opportunity to have a chance to keep playing with a lot of the friends and teammates that I've made. To me, that means the world a lot more than other things that could be offered from other teams."

Gostkowski added that the experience taught him he wants to stay put for the remainder of his career.

"It's nice when other teams show interest in you and stuff like that," he said. "But at the end of the day, I would like to try to finish where I started. That meant a lot to me. It meant a lot to my kids and my family. We are ecstatic to have two more shots to play for the Patriots."

Gostkowski, 35, was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2006 draft. The four-time Pro Bowl and two-time All-Pro selection has replaced potential Hall of Famer Adam Vinatieri and become the franchise’s all-time leading scorer since then.
