Masterson has never turned out in a first-team competitive encounter for Liverpool, however, the former  Lucan United defender has made the matchday squad on three occasions.

Liverpool defender Conor Masterson has informed the club that he wants to leave next month when his contract expires in pursuit of a new challenge, the Liverpool Echo report.

The defender made the matchday squad for the first time back in 2016 in the Reds’ FA Cup meeting with Exeter City.

Masterson had to then wait two more years until being included in the first-team squad again, with the Irishman making the bench under Jurgen Klopp in the Champions League.

The youngster was named on the bench against Manchester City in a memorable 3-0 first leg quarter-final win, and was once again in the squad for the Merseyside derby draw at Goodison Park four weeks later.

However, that was Masterson’s last involvement in the squad and the youngster looks set to depart in the summer.

Liverpool to approach this transfer window different than last summer.
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool are unlikely to spend big this summer on fresh recruits. This is the opposite tactic compared to how the club approached last summer, spending around £170million on four players; Xherdan Shaqiri Naby Keita, Alisson and Fabinho. While this took level of spending took Liverpool mere inches from their first Premier League title, Klopp now wants to turn his focus on working with the current crop of talent at his disposal, while also recruiting when and if necessary.
