SportFive defenders who Leicester could pursue this summer
10 big questions for Leicester heading into the summer
Leicester City have had quite an unsteady season this year, but have ended it really strongly to finish ninth in the Premier League. Former boss Claude Puel was sacked as Leicester manager at the end of February after a run of poor results and with the board and fans looking for a change in play style. Then Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was quickly drafted in as his replacement, and under the 46-year-old they have enjoyed an impressive end to the season to finish in the top ten. Even though he has impressed in his first few months, Rodgers has a lot of tests to come and we will start to see during the summer where Leicester could be heading under his stewardship.
It’s likely to be a summer of change at Leicester City with a host of incomings and outgoings expected to take place.
Brendan Rodgers will want to make the squad his own after his move from Celtic in February, and the current transfer window represents his first chance to do that.
Retaining some of his most highly-rated players might be an issue, though, with England internationals Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell both linked with big-money moves away over the next few months.
The central defender has been touted as a target for heavyweights such as Manchester City and Manchester United, while the left-back is currently understood to be the subject of interest from Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
Players from the relegated sides Leicester could target this summer
Leicester City have much to look forward to next season under the management of Brendan Rodgers. The former Liverpool and Swansea boss joined the club from Celtic earlier this year after Claude Puel was sacked and helped the side end the campaign in good form. Rodgers guided Leicester to a top 10 finish and will, no doubt, be targeting 7th place next season in order to have a shot at Europa League football. In order to do that, he will need to strengthen his squad this summer with the help of new signings – with Rodgers yet to sign his first player for Leicester.
Replacing two players of such quality would be a hard task for Rodgers should it be necessary. However, the Foxes will be desperate to keep hold of them.
Who could Leicester target if the duo depart? Let’s take a look.
