Everton signing Andre Gomes on a permanent deal would be a major statement of intent by the club.

According to the Telegraph, the Toffees are increasingly confident of keeping the Portuguese at Goodison Park moving forward.

The silky midfielder enjoyed an impressive season on loan from Barcelona, becoming a fans’ favourite in the process.

Gomes has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham this summer, but they have ended their interest in the player.

Similarly, the 25-year-old has turned down a switch to West Ham, following their attempts to bring the Portugal international to east London.

It would be a significant moment if Everton could make Gomes’ temporary stay a permanent one, showing other potential new signings the calibre of player at the club.

Although Gomes’ time at Barcelona proved disappointing, there is no doubting the quality at his disposal.

It would be the perfect start to Everton’s summer, as they look to kick on under Marco Silva and edge closer to the Premier League’s ‘big six’.
