Manuel Pellegrini is keen on bringing the player to the London Stadium over the summer, with Barcelona recently rejecting an £18m offer from the Hammers. Gomes spent the previous campaign on loan with Everton, impressing in midfield under Marco Silva.

Andre Gomes’ future is set to be sorted in the next few days, according to Sport as Premier League clubs Everton and West Ham battle it out for the midfielder.

The 25-year-old spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Goodison Park so Everton may appeal more to him as he’s familiar with the manager’s demands.

The Portuguese midfielder had a decent season for the Toffees, his driving runs and ability to break the lines from central midfield was a great asset for the Toffees last season.

Gomes appeared 27 times for Everton in the Premier League during his loan spell in which he only scored the one goal and assisted once as well.

Things haven’t really worked out for the Portuguese star ever since his £49 million transfer to Barcelona from Valencia in 2016.

Gomes struggled during his two years at the Catalan club in which he was booed by club home fans on several occasions. There’s no doubt that he is a quality player when playing with confidence as shown during his last season at Valencia and also during Portugal’s title-winning Euro 2016 campaign.

Everton close to finalising Gomes signing, but what comes next?.
Everton are closing in on signing Andre Gomes on a permanent basis, so where do Everton go from here? According to journalist Paul Brown, the Portugal international midfielder has told Barcelona that he only wants to sign for Everton this summer, and barring any late hitches the deal will go through. Everton could pay less than £26million to land the 25-year old, which in the current market can be considered a steal. Fans will be buoyed to hear that Everton are making headway over negotiations with Gomes and Barcelona, after speculation had seen West Ham make moves while Everton appeared to be taking a more relaxed approach.
