Wolverhampton Wanderers are reported to be one of several Premier League clubs keen on a move for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips – but would he be a good signing for the Molineux club?

Football Insider write that Wolves bosses are likely to discuss Phillips when negotiating a potential loan deal with Leeds for Helder Costa.

The 23-year-old enjoyed his best season with the West Yorkshire club to date last term, making 42 Championship appearances as the Whites fell just short of promotion.

The Englishman can operate in central midifeld, defensive midfield or at centre-back, and that versatility could prove vital to Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo as he attempts to juggle extra fixtures next season.

That sort of attitude is one that has endured him to the Leeds supporters and is one that will prove popular with the Molineux faithful.

In addition, he has all the attributes of an accomplished central midfielder, building attacks with his range of passes, sniffing out attacks with his positional sense and being a threat from set pieces.

Now seems the time for Phillips to make the step up to the Premier League, and Wolves should make an offer as soon as possible with his current club expected to offer him a new contract shortly.

His skillset would provide valuable depth to Nuno’s squad, and the Leeds-born player would be able to pick up valuable knowledge and wisdom from Wolves pair Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho going forwards.
