Southampton target Jean-Philippe Mateta is poised to sign a new contract with Bundesliga side Mainz.

According to Le10 Sport, via journalist Ronan Murphy, Mateta will sign a new deal, which will come as a blow to the interested parties.

Newcastle, Watford and Southampton were among a host of clubs said to have been keen on a move to bring the striker over to England this summer, but he now looks set to stay with Mainz for another season, at least.

The young forward enjoyed an impressive season in Germany with Mainz, scoring 14 times in the Bundesliga, attracting interest from Southampton and a number of other Premier League sides.

Mateta joined Mainz from Lyon last summer, after failing to score in two senior appearances for the French giants during a two-year spell.

LASK Linz have received an enquiry for Southampton target Goiginger.
LASK Linz vice-president Jurgen Werner has confirmed that the Austrian club have received an enquiry for Thomas Goiginger, who has been linked with a summer switch to Southampton. The Saints are believed to be in the race to sign the winger as they begin to prepare for the 2019/20 campaign. It will be the club’s first full season under the management of Ralph Hasenhuttl, and reports have suggested that the boss is keen to recruit his compatriot Goiginger. Previous claims have indicated that Southampton would be prepared to spend £5 million on the 26-year-old, who scored six goals and chipped in with 11 assists for LASK during his 31 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga.
