The 18-year-old is also catching the eye of Celtic and Chelsea, who, along with the Saints, have scouted the towering defender. The report suggests that fellow Premier League outfit Watford have even gone as far as making an approach to Nantes for the player, with the centre-back attracting plenty of interest. Gassama, who stands at 6ft 3in, has yet to turn out for the first-team and has two years left on his current Nantes deal. The French teenager has qualities that would certainly appeal to Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Chelsea are reported to be closing in on Senegal defender Papy Djilobodji as a switch from Nantes nears completion. The 27-year-old Djilobodji has one year remaining on his contract with Nantes and is flying to London for a medical, according to reports in France.

The towering 18-year-old is highly thought of in France and is known for his ability to play out from the back along with possessing impressive defensive capabilities.
