A flying André Gomes comes close to giving Everton the lead at Anfield on Sunday, having got in front of Joe Gomez of Liverpool. Everton hope that will work in their favour when reopening negotiations and their manager has confirmed Gomes ’s signing is a priority.

Everton are closing in on signing Andre Gomes on a permanent basis, so where do Everton go from here?

According to journalist Paul Brown, the Portugal international midfielder has told Barcelona that he only wants to sign for Everton this summer, and barring any late hitches the deal will go through.

Everton could pay less than £26million to land the 25-year old, which in the current market can be considered a steal.

Fans will be buoyed to hear that Everton are making headway over negotiations with Gomes and Barcelona, after speculation had seen West Ham make moves while Everton appeared to be taking a more relaxed approach.

Everton open talks over deal to sign West Ham target Andre Gomes

Everton open talks over deal to sign West Ham target Andre Gomes Everton have opened talks with Barcelona over a deal to sign West Ham transfer target Andre Gomes. According to Mundo Deportivo, via The Mirror, Everton are now in discussion with Barcelona over the permanent signing of the Portuguese international. This will come as a blow to West Ham, who are reportedly interested in signing Gomes ahead of next season. Manuel Pellegrini’s side have been heavily linked with a move for Gomes and recently had an £18m bid rejected by Barcelona. The report claims that Barcelona are looking for a fee in the region of £25m to allow him to leave the Nou Camp this summer. Gomes spent the season on loan to Everton from Barcelona.

EVERTON are reportedly closing in on a permanent deal to sign Andre Gomes from Barcelona. But with Gomes apparently preferring to remain on Merseyside, it is Everton who are in pole position to land him. Meanwhile, it looks like Silva will miss out on retaining the services of Kurt Zouma next

With a deal all but tied up, Everton will need to start making moves for their next target, as Marco Silva still aims to overhaul his squad this summer. So, what comes next?

Both Silva and director of football Marcel Brands have already told the media that they have a pre-determined list of targets ready to go through this summer, and it becomes a matter of time for the club to move down that list and find the available players.

Of course, a striker, winger and a centre-back are the three key areas in need of strengthening after Gomes puts pen to paper, but we can only assume movement is already being made on that front.

Jonas Lossl was brought in promptly, and while I think Gomes could have been wrapped up earlier, it’s good to finally see that come to a close shortly.

I think it’s fair to say that Brands and Silva know what they’re doing in this market, and their sometimes trepidatious approach to paying big transfer fees can also prove beneficial, with thoughts being put towards Everton’s wellbeing as a club.

I have no doubt that Everton’s recruitment team is doing their best to land the targets Silva wants, and while it may not have happened as quickly as many would like, I think it’ll be worth the wait.
