When Yu Darvish imploded in the World Series , there was immediate speculation about the cause could have been. Was he injured? According to a Houston player, the Astros often knew what Darvish was about to throw by the way he brought the ball into his glove in the set position.

Dodgers fans have some bad memories surrounding Yu Darvish.

The current Cubs starter, who the team acquired in a deadline deal in 2017, went 0-2 with a 21.60 ERA in two World Series starts with Los Angeles that season.

He took two of the team's four losses in the series including one in Game 7 in which he gave up five runs (four earned) in 1 2/3 innings pitched.

Some fans might hold grudges about a performance like that, others may have some ill will toward Darvish, but the Dodgers are hoping the Los Angeles faithful can move on and not shower the righty with boos in his first start at Dodgers Stadium since that fateful Game 7 on Saturday.

“Fans have the right to boo players who don’t perform, there’s no doubt about it,” Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw said, via the Orange County Register. “I just think when you’re in here in the clubhouse with the team and you know everything we go through on a day-in, day-out basis and you know Yu performed really well up to that point, pitched two really big games to get into the World Series — against the Diamondbacks and the Cubs. We wouldn’t even have been in that position without him.

“People forget that fast and I understand that. But to us, to me — he was a big contributor to us being there in the first place. That’s kind of how I think about it.”

Darvish was very good leading up to the World Series posting a 2-0 record in two starts with a 1.15 ERA in the NLDS and NLCS. But earlier in the year it had been documented that the former Rangers pitcher had some trouble tipping his pitches and that came back to bite him in the World Series.

The Astros knew what was coming during his two starts, and when you add that to the fact that Darvish's command and control were off, Houston lit up the Dodgers starter.

But Cody Bellinger — who struck out an MLB record 29 times during the 2017 postseason — knows the Dodgers lost two more games that series that Darvish had nothing to do with. He doesn't think Yu should be made into a villain.

"I don’t think so,” Bellinger said. “Everyone is a competitor. Obviously, it’s probably not how he wanted it to turn out. But, I mean, everyone fails, you know? So I don’t think so.

“Not one person lost the World Series. So, no, I don’t think he deserves that.”

And to add insult to injury, Darvish decided to sign with the Cubs in free agency the next year spurning the Dodgers who got him to a World Series. Los Angeles fans might not be in a forgiving mood, but the team's players hope they can forgive and forget because an entire team lost that series, not just Yu.

“I don’t think Yu Darvish lost the World Series,” Kiké Hernandez said. “I think the Dodgers did.”

The Dodgers and Cubs face off at 9:10 p.m. ET Saturday.
