Sutton questions Celtic's pursuit of David Turnbull

Sutton questions Celtic's pursuit of David Turnbull Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has questioned the Hoops’ pursuit of Motherwell’s David Turnbull, after Celtic had a bid for the midfielder rejected earlier this week. Turnbull enjoyed a fine campaign for Motherwell last season, and has attracted interest from the likes of Southampton, Bristol City and Barnsley; the latter also saw their £2million bid for the midfielder rejected. However, Sutton has questioned whether the 19-year-old has the ability to make an impact at Celtic in his column for the Daily Record. “The biggest issue for me surrounding Turnbull is would he get a game for Celtic? Will Turnbull take Celtic to the next level? That’s the big conundrum.

David Turnbull ’ s prospective move to Celtic could be falling through in the 11th hour, with Premier League club Southampton reportedly launching an ambush while negotiations stall over agent fees. Motherwell had accepted a £3million bid from the Scottish champions and all that was left to agree

David Turnbull’s prospective move to Celtic could be falling through in the 11th hour, with Premier League club Southampton reportedly launching an ambush while negotiations stall over agent fees.

Motherwell had accepted a £3million bid from the Scottish champions and all that was left to agree was terms with Turnbull’s agent, but he now looks to be set on moving to the south coast.

According to Football Insider, Celtic were planning to announce the signing of the 19-year-old midfielder but now face virtually unbeatable competition – financially speaking – in Southampton.

The outlet claims the top-flight side have blown the Hoops’ five-year offer out of the water which has turned the head of Turnbull and his camp.

For £3m, Turnbull’s arrival would be a huge coup after he netted 15 goals in 30 games from midfield for Motherwell this season.

It may be worth Celtic moving onto different targets now though, with sources inside the club fearing any potential move is dead.

Turnbull's Celtic move thrown into doubt following medical.
David Turnbull’s move to Celtic has been thrown into doubt after an issue arose during the midfielder’s medical. The Hoops had agreed a £3million deal with Motherwell for the 19-year-old last week, with Turnbull reportedly agreeing on a four-year contract with the club. However, according to The Herald, the move could now be called off due to an unspecified issue with the midfielder’s medical. Celtic and Motherwell are now said to be in talks with regards to how to move forwards, and the report suggests the transfer could be in “serious jeopardy.
