This follows reports that emerged earlier this week that stated Chelsea have opened talks with Lampard about the managerial role. Lampard’s Derby County squad failed to gain promotion after a thrilling finish to their season, which saw them face defeat at Wembley in the play-off final against Aston Villa.

It is beginning to feel like a Marvel re-make at Stamford Bridge , rounding up all the superheroes of the past to see if any of their old powers might be reconfigured into something useful in the current day. It is a list that grows all the time: Petr Cech, Didier Drogba, maybe even Claude Makelele or Ashley Cole.

It looks as though Chelsea will be riddled with ex-players in the upcoming season as the club faces a major staff shake-up this summer.

Rumours about Frank Lampard’s return are still up in the air and now it looks like he will be joined by another ex-Chelsea player, in Claude Makelele, who is being tipped to make a return as a coach, according to reports on Goal.

After over a decade away from Chelsea, Makelele will reportedly be given a role in the coaching staff for the loan group at Stamford Bridge, with Petr Cech also expected to return as technical director.

The 46-year-old has not long ago left his managerial role at KAS Eupen, where he had a relatively successful spell.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia has reportedly been keen to refresh the staff behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge following the departure of Maurizio Sarri to Juventus.

Makelele’s new role in West London will be encouraging for the squad and the club’s loan players because of his vast experience could potentially help bring them greater success than they achieved last season.

Eight members of Lampard's Derby coaching team could follow him to Chelsea.
Frank Lampard is widely expected to land the Chelsea job later this week after it was confirmed he would be allowed to discuss the role with the Blues. The Chelsea legend will now want to bring a number of his Derby coaching staff with him and according to Goal, it could be as many as eight. Lampard’s assistant at Derby, Jody Morris, is thought to be one of the first names that will join the manager back at Chelsea. Morris is familiar with Chelsea and has managed the youth teams in the past so could prove to be an invaluable member of the backroom staff.
