Liverpool given boost in Werner pursuit

Liverpool given boost in Werner pursuit Liverpool appear to have been handed a transfer boost in their pursuit of RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner. German giants Bayern Munich had appeared to be the favourites to land the signature of the highly rated 23-year old, but reports now claim that the club have cooled their interest. Mirror Sport claim that the Bavarians have been put off by Leipzig’s £50million valuation, and have reportedly turned their full attention to Manchester City’s Leroy Sane, who they have been pursuing for the last few weeks.

Liverpool are looking to spend no more than £20 million this summer on a new forward.

According to reports from the Mirror, as cited on the Metro, Jurgen Klopp is still planning on adding to his front line, despite the success that his front three enjoyed last season.

The report claims that Klopp will prioritise someone who is similar to last summer’s signing Xherdan Shaqiri, a player who can play in various positions, while also not someone who will be demanding to play each week ahead of the likes of Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane.

Both Mane and Salah are involved in the African Cup of Nations this summer and Klopp is aware that he might need a quality back-up to start the new season.

In the modern market, £20 million may not be enough to secure the calibre of player that Klopp is after, meaning the club’s recruitment team will certainly have their work cut out this summer.

Everton are said to be considering whether or not to make an offer for Pepe, who Lille value at around £58m. The Telegraph say that it is unclear as to how high Everton are willing to go with a potential bid.
