Celtic Predicted XI: FK Sarajevo (H)

Celtic Predicted XI: FK Sarajevo (H) Celtic Park will host its first competitive match of the 2019/20 campaign on Wednesday night as the Hoops look to progress into the second round of the Champions League qualifiers. A solid performance in Bosnia last week means Neil Lennon’s side go into the second-leg with a 3-1 advantage. Despite Sarajevo going ahead on home soil, a professional Celtic side kept their composure and dug deep to secure the win – along with three important away goals. The Hoops returned to Parkhead on Saturday for a friendly with French side Stade Rennes which ended goalless. It gave a whole range of players some valuable game-time to boost fitness.

Celtic got their Champions League qualifying campaign off to the perfect start after goals from Mikey Johnston, Odsonne Edouard and Scott Sinclair saw them run out 3-1 winners against FK Sarajevo after an early scare.

Despite the Hoops dominating the early possession, it was the hosts who carved out the first chance of the game.

A ball in behind Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo allowed Sarajevo’s front-man in on goal, but Scott Bain stood up well to block the effort.

Before the half-hour mark, Celtic found themselves a goal down. A mix-up at the back saw Jozo Simunovic give away a needless corner that was delivered into a great area before Mirkos Oremus eventually slammed home from close range.

Tom Rogic set to miss Sarajevo Champions League qualifier

Tom Rogic set to miss Sarajevo Champions League qualifier Tom Rogic’s injury frustrations have arisen once again and while the Celtic squad train hard in the Austrian heat, he has stayed in Glasgow with the club’s Champions League qualifier against Sarajevo just around the corner – as per the Daily Record. The Australia international managed just 17 Scottish Premiership appearances last season and Celtic’s hot pursuit of Motherwell attacking midfielder David Turnbull tells you all you need to know about their stance. On his day, you could argue the 26-year-old is the Hoops’ most effective player but questions must be raised about his general fitness going into such an important season under Neil Lennon.

Sarajevo looked dangerous after this on the break, with the home fans making plenty of noise, but they were soon silenced six minutes later.

Mikey Johnston cut inside with some tidy footwork before unleashing a stunning strike into the top corner from outside the box to equalise and calm things down for the visitors.

James Forrest nearly took advantage of a lull in the Bosnian side’s efforts as he ran through on goal but couldn’t find the top corner.

Not long into the second period, the visitors went in front through Edouard’s cool finish inside the box.

With five minutes remaining, Sinclair looked to have settled the tie with his side’s third when Morgan’s cross found him in the six-yard area, and the Englishman pulled off a cheeky backheel to score.

It was a professional display from Neil Lennon’s men after going behind in Bosnia, and they should be comfortable sealing the deal at Parkhead next Wednesday.

We predict Celtic's starting XI for clash with FK Sarajevo Celtic return to competitive action for the first time in six weeks as they prepare to face Bosnian side FK Sarajevo in the first qualifying round of this season’s Champions League. Neil Lennon will take charge of his first game since being unveiled as the club’s new manager on a permanent basis. The Hoops have gained some valuable minutes during their pre-season tour of Austria, having played three games in which a host of players have featured. The manager will have a tough task on his hands when it comes to selecting his starting XI for Tuesday night’s game. Bosnian champions Sarajevo have also racked up some minutes in pre-season friendlies recently.

Turnbull's Celtic move thrown into doubt following medical.
David Turnbull’s move to Celtic has been thrown into doubt after an issue arose during the midfielder’s medical. The Hoops had agreed a £3million deal with Motherwell for the 19-year-old last week, with Turnbull reportedly agreeing on a four-year contract with the club. However, according to The Herald, the move could now be called off due to an unspecified issue with the midfielder’s medical. Celtic and Motherwell are now said to be in talks with regards to how to move forwards, and the report suggests the transfer could be in “serious jeopardy.
