Jake Arrieta's comments could come back to haunt him.

According to NBC Sports Philadelphia, the Phillies pitcher could face discipline from MLB "probably in the form of a fine" for his dented skull threat directed at Mets third baseman Todd Frazier.

The remarks stem from Saturday's game at Citi Field, when Frazier was tossed from the game for screaming at Arrieta and the home plate umpire after he was hit by a pitch. The reaction prompted Arrieta to lose his cool and say he would "put a dent in his skull."

Frazier admitted Arrieta likely didn't mean to hit him, but added it's coincidental that he was beaned by a member of the Phillies again. It was the second day in a row Frazier was hit by a Philadelphia pitcher and third time overall by the Phillies this season. Both sides were warned to calm down after the incident, which only made Frazier more frustrated.

"I’m just sick of getting hit, especially by this team,” Frazier said Sunday, via the New York Post. "At the end of the day, he can say what he wants. A little overboard, but just got to keep playing. Hopefully some things change.

"It probably wasn’t on purpose, I’ll be honest with you. But I’ve gotten hit too many times by the same team. My reactions were warranted."

Arrieta, however, could have bigger problems as it was reported earlier this week he has a bone spur in his right elbow and he likely will need surgery.

He is expected to undergo an MRI for further evaluation this week to determine the severity of the injury and whether he will be able to continue throwing this season.

MLB trade rumors: Todd Frazier would be ‘OK’ if Mets dealt him.
Frazier's two-year, $17M contract expires after the 2019 season, and the Mets are looking for a return before he heads into free agency. Pitchers Zack Wheeler and Jason Vargas are among the other Mets veterans expected to spark interest before the deadline who possibly could be moved. “I am playing the game, just like Zack is, and we’re trying to play to the best of our ability,” Frazier said. “And until I hear something from my agent or Brodie [Van Wagenen, general manager] or somebody within the Mets organization, then I will start thinking about it because it’s out of your control.
