New Liverpool signing Sepp van den Berg will miss the Reds’ first pre-season game against Tranmere Rovers, the club’s official website have confirmed.

The defender is ineligible to take part on Thursday evening after failing to gain FIFA clearance.

The 17-year-old recently completed his transfer from PEC Zwolle, but FIFA rules stipulate that the player is unable to play until he has been granted clearance to do so.

Jurgen Klopp snapped up the highly-rated young centre-back last month for a fee of £1.3 million, and his experience at first-team level could help smooth his pathway into Liverpool’s squad for the next season.

Klopp to give young Van Den Berg chance to impress

Klopp to give young Van Den Berg chance to impress Recent Liverpool signing Sepp van den Berg will be given the chance during pre-season to impress, after being included in first-team training, as reported by Mail Online. The 17-year old defender signing in a £1.5million deal from PEC Zwolle in the Netherlands, having made 23 senior appearances for the Eredivisie club already, despite his young age. The Reds view Van Den Berg as someone who possesses the talent to break through into the first-team set up at Anfield, and Jurgen Klopp will allow him the opportunity during the club’s pre-season campaign to stake his claim.

The Dutch defender made 22 appearances last term, with 15 of those coming in the Eredivisie, and he has reportedly already made a good impression on his new manager.

Klopp’s policy of recruiting cheap young prospects this summer could well see van den Berg link up with former Fulham scholar Harvey Elliott, who recently rejected a new contract at Craven Cottage and looks likely to make the move to Merseyside.

Elliott became the youngest ever Premier League debutant when Scott Parker brought him on against Wolves at the age of just 16 years and 30 days.

The hotly-tipped English midfielder made his professional debut in the Carabao Cup when he was just 15 years old, and this has unsurprisingly caught the attention of Liverpool who look likely to fend off interest from a host of other European heavyweights to secure his services.

Four Findings: Tranmere Rovers (A).
The Champions of Europe got their pre-season underway with their annual friendly game against Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park. Both teams have progressed rapidly in the years that this friendly has been played, as has the interest in the match. The stadium was sold out as Liverpool, who played 23 players in total, included a cameo striker’s role for goalkeeper Dan Atherton in the second half! The Reds ran out 6-0 winners thanks to goals from Nathaniel Clyne, Rhian Brewster (2), Curtis Jones, Divock Origi and Bobby Duncan.
