Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick has received a two-game suspension and been fined an undisclosed amount after he collided into Angels catcher Jonathan Lucroy last Sunday.

MLB announced the suspension Thursday, saying Marisnick violated the league's rule on crashing into any player covering home plate.

“After thoroughly reviewing the play from all angles, I have concluded that Jake’s actions warrant discipline," chief baseball officer Joe Torre said in a statement. "While I do not believe that Jake intended to injure Jonathan, the contact he initiated in his attempt to score violated Official Baseball Rule 6.01(i), which is designed to protect catchers from precisely this type of collision.”

MLB trade rumors: Astros unwilling to move this prospect in deal for Tigers’ Matthew Boyd The Astros are interested in dealing for Tigers starter Matthew Boyd. But, only at the right price. Houston is unwilling to include outfielder Kyle Tucker in a potential trade for the 28-year-old left-hander, according to a report from MLB Network, which cites an unidentified league source. #Astros have interest in Matthew Boyd but source says they are indicating (for now, at least) that they won’t put Kyle Tucker in the deal. #Tigers asked for Tucker in the Verlander talks, too, and received a similar response from Jeff Luhnow.

Houston's Jake Marisnick is suspended two games by MLB for the collision with the Angels' MLBPA communications director Chris Dahl says Jake Marisnick will appeal the two - game I made a split second decision at full speed to slide head first on the inside part of the plate.

Major League Baseball announced on Thursday that Jake Marisnick of the Houston Astros will be suspended two games for colliding with Los Angeles Angels catcher Jonathan Lucroy.

Marisnick insisted that the collision was an accident and has apologized to Lucroy, calling it a poor judgement call. The brutal hit caused Lucroy to get a concussion, as well as a broken nose.

Many have called for Marisnick to be punished for the hit, including Angels skipper Brad Ausmus and Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina.

“It certainly didn’t look like a clean play,” Ausmus, who is a former catcher, told reporters after the game. “I don’t know what actually happened. It looked like Marisnick took a step to the left and bowled into him with his arm up. The call was right. Major League Baseball should probably take a look at it and consider some type of suspension, quite frankly.”

Unless he appeals the decision, Marisnick's suspension will start Thursday, when the Astros take on the Rangers.
