SportMavericks will 'certainly' load manage Kristaps Porzingis, Mark Cuban says
NBA free agency rumors: Nuggets, Mavericks hoping to ‘swoop in and lure’ Tobias Harris away from 76ers
The Nets, Grizzlies, Jazz, Clippers and Pelicans have all also been linked to Harris while Philadelphia is hoping to re-sign him, as well. Philadelphia acquired Harris in a deadline deal with the Clippers. He averaged 18.2 points and 7.9 rebounds in 27 regular-season games with the 76ers. Harris has bounced around the NBA and has played for five teams in eight seasons, averaging 15.4 points per game while shooting 36.4% from 3-point range in 546 career appearances. “There's only so many players that are super stable in the NBA, let's just be upfront with that,” Harris said about his approach to free agency last month.
The Mavericks plan on being cautious with Kristaps Porzingis in 2019-20.
Team owner Mark Cuban discussed the concept of load management onTuesday at the NBA summer league, saying Dallas will use the tactic to keep its newest star healthy and used Kawhi Leonard's 2018-19 season with the Raptors as an example.
"KP (Porzingis) coming back from an injury … we're gonna certainly load manage him," Cuban said. "We saw what Kawhi did, and Kawhi was still banged up in the Finals after all of that. You could see him limping.
"And you can argue about the injuries with Golden State. The length of the season and all those playoff runs. How it cumulatively impacted their health, we don't know. But, yeah, you're going to see load management more and more and more."
NBA free agency rumors: Magic prep $90M+ offer for All-Star center Nikola Vucevic
However, the number the Magic are offering is short of the $25 million per year Vucevic was hoping for. "Last, but not least, is the question of All-Star center Vucevic, who has long been reported, including by The News, as a likely Mavericks free-agent target. Sources, however, now tell The News that while the Mavericks see Vucevic as a viable fit alongside Kristaps Porzingis, Vucevic is seeking a starting salary of $25 million and thus is out of Dallas' price range.
The Mavs acquired Porzingis from the Knicks in February ahead of the trade deadline. The 23-year-old big man tore his ACL in February 2018 and missed all of last season. But the Mavericks hope the 2018 All-Star will be a long-term contributor who can help them become a contender moving forward.
Porzingis averaged 22.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in 2017-18 while shooting 39.5% from beyond the arc, before his injury. He signed a five-year, $158 million deal with the Mavericks this summer and is expected to be a co-star alongside 2019 Rookie of the Year Luka Doncic in 2019-20.
Dallas still focused on solidifying the rest of its roster this summer though, as it signed guards Delon Wright and Seth Curry. Cuban believes having the right group of role players around stars will be essential to success down the road.

"If you don't really have a full complement of players and you're keeping your star player load managed, that creates challenge," Cuban said.
The Mavericks were 33-49 in 2018-19 and finished 14th in the Western Conference.
Mark Cuban fined $50K for leak during NBA Board of Governors meeting, report says.
"I appreciate the irony of your reporting on a fine that someone should, but won't, get fined for leaking to you," Cuban told ESPN. Cuban immediately admitted to sharing confidential information to reporters after Kings owner Vivek Ranadive "expressed concern that information about the vote to allow coaches' challenges was being reported," according to ESPN. The fine was handed down because it is deemed a violation of league rules to discuss the information shared in the meeting to outsiders. This isn't the first time the NBA has cut into Cuban's pockets.
