Conceicao keen on Newcastle job - would he be a good appointment?

Conceicao keen on Newcastle job - would he be a good appointment? Newcastle United are on the lookout for a new manager this summer, and according to Sky Sports, FC Porto boss Sergio Conceicao is keen. Could he be the perfect replacement for Rafa Benitez? The Magpies supporters were incensed by the emerging confirmation that the Spaniard would walk away at the end of his contract ahead of next season. Once again, owner Mike Ashley has left the Newcastle faithful with plenty to be angry about, and following the departure of the much-loved Benitez, the next managerial appointment will need to be perfect.

Newcastle United are reportedly keeping tabs on Italian goalkeeper Mattia Perin after Juventus re-signed club legend Gianluigi Buffon on a short-term deal, but would the Italian be a good signing?

Buffon’s contract specifically stipulates that he will start a certain number of games, injury forbidding, in order to surpass Paolo Maldini’s record for appearances in Serie A and as a result, Perin’s future has been cast into doubt with the 26-year-old unwilling to play third choice.

While a potential move away from the Old Lady seems like a sensible choice for a player of Perin’s quality, he is unlikely to find any such salvation at Newcastle where Martin Dubravka currently holds down the number one jersey.

Manchester United eye £20m move for Longstaff, but should Newcastle demand more? Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a £20million move for Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff, but should the Magpies demand more for the midfielder? According to a Daily Starsport exclusive, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified Longstaff as one of his main targets and is looking to match the Magpies’ valuation of £20million plus add ons. But should Newcastle demand more for the midfielder? In a transfer window in which United have already signed one highly rated young Englishman in Aaron Wan Bissaka for £50million, you could question whether £20million for Longstaff is a relatively low fee.

Having made his loan move from Sparta Prague permanent last summer, the Slovakian stopper has gone on to excel in his short time at St James’ Park, cementing his place as both a fans favourite and a reliable shot-stopper.

Perin meanwhile is at a crucial stage of his career and since making his breakthrough at Genoa, he has seen his potential stall after a big money move to Juventus. The last thing the Italian international needs is another season of uncertainty on the bench, with his place in the national side becoming more and more heavily contested.

It would, therefore, be a poor piece of business from both parties if they were to sanction such a move, and Newcastle should begin to address more pressing issues such as their diminishing goal threat.
