'Juventus getting a phenomenon in De Ligt' - Lippi sees Dutchman as 'best signing' Bianconeri can make The Dutch defender's development has put him on course to be as good as Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Nesta, according to the former Juve manager

Mattia Perin (Italian pronunciation: [matˈtiːa peˈrin]; born 10 November 1992) is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Serie A club Juventus and the Italy national team.

Mattia Perin – Yes, Newcastle are interested. Perin would be much more economical as he was bought by Juventus for just €12m last summer. This week, though, it is Porto who are very heavily linked with interest in the keeper as well as the aforementioned Lazio, but only as a replacement if

Newcastle United are reportedly keeping tabs on Italian goalkeeper Mattia Perin after Juventus re-signed club legend Gianluigi Buffon on a short-term deal, but would the Italian be a good signing?

Buffon’s contract specifically stipulates that he will start a certain number of games, injury forbidding, in order to surpass Paolo Maldini’s record for appearances in Serie A and as a result, Perin’s future has been cast into doubt with the 26-year-old unwilling to play third choice.

While a potential move away from the Old Lady seems like a sensible choice for a player of Perin’s quality, he is unlikely to find any such salvation at Newcastle where Martin Dubravka currently holds down the number one jersey.

Juventus ’ pursuit of Mattia Perin is not one of those instances. In a very, very good interview with the Corriere di Torino on Monday, Perin has spoken about how flattering it is that I repeat, I’m aware Juventus are a great club, that I’ll find another great goalkeeper and there will be space for me to play.

Having made his loan move from Sparta Prague permanent last summer, the Slovakian stopper has gone on to excel in his short time at St James’ Park, cementing his place as both a fans favourite and a reliable shot-stopper.

Perin meanwhile is at a crucial stage of his career and since making his breakthrough at Genoa, he has seen his potential stall after a big money move to Juventus. The last thing the Italian international needs is another season of uncertainty on the bench, with his place in the national side becoming more and more heavily contested.

It would, therefore, be a poor piece of business from both parties if they were to sanction such a move, and Newcastle should begin to address more pressing issues such as their diminishing goal threat.
