Liverpool began their 2019 pre-season campaign with a comfortable 6-0 win over Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.

Rhian Brewster scored a brace in the first half, while Nathaniel Clyne opened the scoring on the day. After the break, Curtis Jones, Divock Origi and Bobby Duncan scored the goals to lead the Reds to a romping victory.

Manager Jurgen Klopp named quite a strong line-up for the first half of this game, with the likes of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Clyne, Simon Mignolet and Adam Lallana featuring.

In the second half though, there were more youngsters involved, along with few senior players – namely Fabinho, Joel Matip and Divock Origi thrown in the mix.

Sepp van den Berg to miss Tranmere friendly

Sepp van den Berg to miss Tranmere friendly New Liverpool signing Sepp van den Berg will miss the Reds’ first pre-season game against Tranmere Rovers, the club’s official website have confirmed. The defender is ineligible to take part on Thursday evening after failing to gain FIFA clearance. The 17-year-old recently completed his transfer from PEC Zwolle, but FIFA rules stipulate that the player is unable to play until he has been granted clearance to do so. Jurgen Klopp snapped up the highly-rated young centre-back last month for a fee of £1.3 million, and his experience at first-team level could help smooth his pathway into Liverpool’s squad for the next season.

Clyne opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a hammer of a finish. Brewster then netted two goals, both of them showing his finishing prowess, in space of seven minutes just before half-time.

Curtis Jones added to the goal tally with a cute finish at the back post in the 53rd minute. Origi made it five around the hour mark with a good take and finish. Duncan scored the last goal of the game in the 67th minute with a poacher’s finish.

Here’s how we rate the performances of each player today:

Paul Glatzel could miss large chunk of pre-season.
Liverpool forward Paul Glatzel has been dealt a cruel blow after Jurgen Klopp confirmed that he’d suffered what looks to be a serious injury. Glatzel was part of the Liverpool team that took to the field for the second half of the Reds’ pre-season friendly on Thursday evening but he had to be taken off shortly after assisting Bobby Duncan’s goal. Glatzel hobbled off after he fell awkwardly whilst attempting to close down the Tranmere goalkeeper and Liverpool were forced to send on substitute goalkeeper Daniel Atherton up front for the final 15 minutes of the 6-0 win at Prenton Park.
