Everton appear to be closing on the signing of Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph, but would that be a good move for the club?

The Toffees had been linked with a move for the 29-year old central midfielder earlier this week, amid speculation linking him with an exit from the Etihad Stadium.

The England international only made 11 league appearances for the Premier League champions last season, and with just 12 months left on his contract it appears the Cityzens are prepared to let him go, with his game time likely to be restriced even further following the signing of Rodri from Atletico Madrid.

Everton linked with Delph - would he be a good signing?

Everton linked with Delph - would he be a good signing? Everton are reportedly keen to sign Fabian Delph from Manchester City, but would this be a smart signing from the club? According to claims from The Times, the Toffees have expressed an interest in securing a surprise deal for the England international, who was a part of his team’s two Premier League title wins in the past couple of seasons. Delph operated at left-back for City despite his natural position being in the centre of midfield, and he provided adequate cover in the absence of Benjamin Mendy.

As reported by reliable Merseyside journalist Paul Joyce on Twitter, Everton appear to be closing in on a deal, with negotiations still taking place with City ahead of an £8million switch. However, if this a deal the club should be pursuing?

I’ll be honest, I have absolutely no idea. Should Marco Silva see Delph as a valuable squad player who can boost our numbers and give the club other options, then I think for a fee as low as £8million (in the 2019 market) we can’t go far wrong.

On the other hand if the club see Delph as an adequate replacement for Idrissa Gueye, who could still be the move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, then they will be making a huge error.

PSG make an offer for Gueye, but should Everton accept it?

PSG make an offer for Gueye, but should Everton accept it? Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly submitted a new offer in a bid to sign Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye, but should the club accept it? The French champions pursued the Senegal international midfielder during the January transfer window, and despite the 29-year old wanting out, the Toffees stood firm in their stance that the midfielder was too important to sell. Now L’Equipe, as reported by GFFN, claim that PSG have returned in another attempt to sign the enforcer, citing an offer of £27million. Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming days, which could potentially suggest that Everton didn’t reject the offer out of hand.

Delph already falls far outside of Marcel Brands’ age recruitment parameters at 29, while some fans would prefer the club award younger players within the club more opportunities, such as Tom Davies and Beni Baningime.

My thoughts on this deal depend on how Silva views Delph and what part he wants him to play this season, and because we don’t know that it is hard to put a value on this deal.

But for such a low figure, I’m choosing to see positivity in the fact that the club will have more money to spend on strengthening their forward line, which is in drastic need of refreshment.

Fulham set to make £5m Besic offer - should Everton sell?.
Fulham are set to make a £5m offer for Everton central midfielder Mo Besic – but should the Blues sell him? According to TeamTalk, Everton have set a £5m price tag on Besic and Fulham are willing to meet it. The report claims that clubs from the Serie A, Ligue 1 and Bundesliga are all interested in him, but Besic wants to stay in England would prefer a move to Fulham. Should Everton sell Besic, though? The 26-year-old has spent the last season-and-a-half on loan to Middlesbrough in the Championship, where he has impressed in midfield. With Idrissa Gana Gueye constantly being linked with a move away from the club, would Besic be the worst option to keep around? No.
