Lampard praises Tomori, Mount and Abraham following St Patrick's win

Lampard praises Tomori, Mount and Abraham following St Patrick's win Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has heaped praise on Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount following the club’s 4-0 win over St Patrick’s on Saturday. The Blues picked up their first win of pre-season as they eased past the Irish outfit, following on from their 1-1 draw with Bohemians on Wednesday. Mount and Emerson scored the goals for Chelsea as Lampard’s side went into the break 2-0 up, before Olivier Giroud found the back of the net twice in the second-half to round off the scoring.

Chelsea round off their tour of Ireland with a game against St Patrick’s Athletic, who currently sit fourth in the Irish Premier Division.

Wednesday’s far from inspiring draw with Bohemians presented new manager Frank Lampard with a host of issues, that he will have to iron out before the resumption of the new season in just under a month. Whilst fitness and personnel certainly played a part in Chelsea’s performance, it was clear to many onlookers that yet another change in tactic could cause disruptions to a team who had only just started to get to grips with previous manager Maurizio Sarri’s high pressing possession based system dubbed ‘Sarriball’.

Celtic Predicted XI: FK Sarajevo (H)

Celtic Predicted XI: FK Sarajevo (H) Celtic Park will host its first competitive match of the 2019/20 campaign on Wednesday night as the Hoops look to progress into the second round of the Champions League qualifiers. A solid performance in Bosnia last week means Neil Lennon’s side go into the second-leg with a 3-1 advantage. Despite Sarajevo going ahead on home soil, a professional Celtic side kept their composure and dug deep to secure the win – along with three important away goals. The Hoops returned to Parkhead on Saturday for a friendly with French side Stade Rennes which ended goalless. It gave a whole range of players some valuable game-time to boost fitness.

More senior players have since returned to training and could well feature for the Blues, although with a packed schedule of pre-season fixtures ahead Lampard may use the game as an opportunity to have one last look at some of the youngsters who impressed against Bohemians.

St Patrick’s season is well underway but they will still be reeling from defeat in the first leg of their Europa League qualifier against IFK Norrkoping, and could themselves field a weakened squad in preparation for the second leg.
